Are there still Randomized Encounter "Hotspots"?

Post » Thu Dec 09, 2010 1:07 pm

Hi all!

I've played FO:NV faithfully since it came out, and unfortunately i lost my 1st and 2nd playthroughs due to savegame corruption, but since i had the opportunity to replay the entire 1st 10 levels or so on my 2nd gameplay before it too was lost, i thought i would see tons of different encounters at certain areas..but so far it seems everything is the same?

let me explain-

In Fallout 3, i really enjoyed the whole "random wasteland encounters hotspots" thing- You could save a game at some point, then go running off to a nearby "hotspot" and see different "encounters" every time you reloaded, sometimes in one hotspot it would be some escaped slaves, or maybe this time you reloaded it there is a merchant there instead, or maybe a guy that runs up to you saying he has explosives strapped to him, and you need to save him by defusing the bomb...etc etc

heck one time in Fallout 3 i even met the famous philosophical supermutant Fawkes wandering around aimlessly on the desert near a "hotspot", waaaaaaay before i even met him near the end of the game where he becomes an ally if you save him...after reloading, i got a different encounter, so it was also a random!

the point is everytime you walked past a preordained "hotspot" it would trigger an "encounter" that was randomized..

So far in FO:NV i have seen the same creatures and NPC's at the places i have traveled between my 2 playthroughs..

So is it i just have not found one of these "hotspots"? the wasteland IS a big place, after all..

or did they remove these in FO:NV?

just wondering, loving the game even though i have now had over 60 hours wasted by savegame corruptions...

(you DEVS better release a patch soon or i will have to start my 3rd playthrough lol! )

i suppose those who worked with the geck in Fallout 3 should know the routines already for these random encounters, so maybe they can mod in em like you said, but i'm using my 360 to play...

so anyone else out there encounter these "hotspots" in FO:NV?

There are some things that change game to game... you expect say a powder ganger to always spawn in place a and b and instead you have them spawning a good 2-300 feet away in anouther game. Instead of x number of whatever you find y and they are not where you expected them...

But the random encoun ter thing this time seems to be being used mostly for wild wasteland and non wild wasteland. so its not random;/

Well, that's sad. I hope that isn't something that caries over. When TESV comes out I hope it includes FO3's random encounters and NV's hardcoe mode. The random encounters were one of the absolute BEST new features. Hopefully Bethesda still keeps it around for the new TES since they didn't make New Vegas but if they're smart they'll incorporate Obsidians hardcoe mode for the real rpg fans.

I'd much rather have broad sweeping landscapes with interesting random encounters than a more scripted environment, especially with such a cool faction system.

One of the coolest moments I had in Fallout 3 was when some outcasts that were just walking down the road got in a fight with these well armed raiders that were hanging out in a busted home. In the middle of an epic battle two giant rad scorpions attacked and it became a this complete tornado of death and destruction. I got to watch the whole thing go down and gather up all the goodies taking out a couple weakened survivors.

I thought I had a random encounter...
Spoiler
there was a guy attacking a girl outside Nipton (I think) and it had turned out the girl being shot at was trying to get some caps off of the guy.
Not sure if it is actually a random encounter or not.

I had that encounter as well, but it was also around there, so I couldn't say. But it was strange to see them around there, so I'm thinking it's probably triggered by something you do, rather than just happening upon them. I can wait for so random encounter mods, as well.

I got that as well my first time into Nipton so I'm guessing it's not.

it's funny you list that example, it was that encounter exactly that made me wonder if it was in fact a random one on the 1st playthrough, but it seems that situation always occurs at the same place..

good call though!

too bad about Obsidian seemingly leaving out this element of the fallout universe!

AND-

having a hardcoe mode in the Elder Scrolls V would be great! I like your ideas!

I miss random encounters. This game is brilliant but in that regard it is lacking.

This is not a random encounter. You can check at the vault.
