Are you a fan of this recent "3D" craze and re-relea

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 2:54 am

Lately, we have seen a huge influx of re-releases of old films..in 3D.

Titanic
Beauty and the Beast
Star Wars: Phantom Menace
Etc, the list goes on

Are you a fan? I am not. I mean I think it is just getting stupid. Studios wanting to release old films with a half-arsed paint job gimmick with a full price tag. It's silly.

Thoughts? I'd make a poll but I can't do that on a mobile device. :(

No. I'm not a fan of the 3D fad in general, much less of older movies being re-released just to cash in on it. They won't be getting any of my money.

I'll be voicing my distaste for the 3D craze by witholding my money from any such production. They're utterly useless to me - I'm blind in one eye and thus can't benefit from the tech. And I still have to wear the stupid glasses in the theatre just to merely get a crisp 2D image in my good eye.

Oh, and I will also use silence as a tool to prevent as much word-of-mouth marketing as I can for 3D films and rereleases. Yeah. One small step at a time...

I'm glad I am not the only one. :P

It just strikes me as desparate. Hollywood needs new material, badly. So bad, in fact, that they are re-releasing Beauty and the Beast in 3D. Really?

I don't mind new films being released in 3D, providing it actually enhances the visuals (Avatar, Tron: Legacy, Tintin, Hugo), but re-releasing films not shot in 3D, in 3D, is just pointless.

There's an old saying that goes soething like this, "If it ain't broke, then don't fix it." Now I don't remeber seeing Beauty and the Beast, but the other two listed I have. I don't remeber either one of them being broke in the first place, however, with the tinkiering George Lucas has done with his Star Wars over the years, has really turned me (and millions of others i'm sure) off completely. Granted it's his work, and he has the right to do with it as he pleaess, but when you tick off that many of you longtime fans, maybe it's time to step back and take a closer look at what made the films so special in the first place. Sometimes no action is the best action one can take...and when your fans see your actions as nothing more than a money grab, that's going to annoy the living [censored] out of them.

I believe 3D is just a gimmick, and re-releasing movies in 3D is kinda silly, but it's probably worth it for those who are looking for it. Seems like just another way to earn money though, and little bit desperate.

I have yet to see a new 3D movie, and I will not see one in the foreseeable future.

Not really. 3D in general just sort of bothers my eyes, whether it's stereoscopic or autostereoscopic. It strains my eyes, I usually get headaches after a while. I never get used to it, no matter how much I view 3D content. Most folks I talk to don't seem to have these problems, which makes me wonder if there's some sort of medical condition that keeps me and these 3D technologies from playing nice, but I've never cared enough to look into it.

Aside from that I really don't mind it. I'm more impressed by games than I am film, some Nintendo 3DS games genuinely looking pretty neat with it. I liked the Resident Evil: Revelations demo and with the slider turned down pretty low it looked nice; the effect wasn't distracing or overwhelming, but it still made the image pop a little bit. The Adventures of Tintin was the only film that I didn't mind the use of 3D in.

I'm not rushing out to buy a 3D TV and I'll probably always opt for 2D versions when possible, but I don't think 3D is a useless gimmick in its current state.

I think 3D has the potential to revolutionise the way we watch TV, it's a step towards the future in my eyes wheter we like it or not. Right now we might see it as a gimmick (I know I do), but sooner or later it's gonna develop into something bigger I think.

Personally I think it's a way for studios to beat a half-dead horse wanting to get a ride till it drops. First it was movies on VHS, then re-releases on DVD, now re-re-release on Blu-Ray, next HD "enhanced" videos on blu-ray/dvd, and now re-re-re-released in theaters in glorious HD with 3D effects added in.

Ya...I think the execs need their vocal cords ripped out so they can't issue orders to their minions to gouge more money from people. Course I don't blame them 100% since there are people out there that have to buy, re-buy, and re-re-buy their stuff even though they have it.

I don't mind them releasing movies on to new methods of watching them; VHS to DVD to Blu-Ray. Admittedly I still have original Star Wars trilogy on video, sadly my VHS played died many years ago.

Also I shall be seeing the Star Wars films because simply I want to regardless of the headache i'm going to get.

Until 3d movies can be watched without the glasses - no.
It's one of those fads that have popped up in movies since the fifties but never goes anywhere.
After you've seen it a few time the novelty wears off.

I believe 3D is the future, but I'm not a huge fan of it. It's really overhyped, I watched Avatar both in 2D and 3D and I liked 2D the most.

I've seen a few 3D movies but so far it seems to be mostly used as a cheap gimmick to get people to watch the movie in theaters rather than at home. Maybe in the future it'll get better, because I don't think it's going away.

3D? I don't really care one way or another.

Remakes? It depends. A tasteful remake of a movie released at least a few decades previously can be good. But this new trend of 'rebooting' franchises that aren't that old is silly. Sometimes it can work, i.e. Christopher Nolan's Batman movies (this worked mainly because previous Batman movies were terrible), but sometimes it's just ridiculous. Like Spiderman. I'd gladly watch Spiderman 4 with Tobey Maguire, but instead they decided to start the whole series again, even though the original isn't even ten years old and it good.

Films that are filmed specifically with 3D in mind (Avatar) are great. It truly adds another diminsion. But movies that have 3D slapped on after post production are a joke. (Clash of the Titans)

Imo

I hope not. Due to my messed up eye-brain co-ordination I can't watch in 3-D. That makes it kinda hard to enjoy it.

I re-buy films on Blu-ray because they generally look and sound much better than their DVD/VHS counterparts.

Not really. I think its because the 3D tv will be the next big thing. After alot of people bough HD tvs.

I have heard people talk about how its a last ditch attempt for theaters to get people into the seats before it just goes under.

It's cool enough I guess. Just Cause 2 is pretty amazing in 3d.

I don't really get the random vitriol that people give 3d, tablets, website redesigns, etc etc.
