"Are you lost?"

I guess this has more than likely been mentioned many times in the past, about Housecarls seemingly not recognising you when you enter your own house, not to mention the rather baffling comment where they ask you if you're looking for any trouble?! Aye?! But my question is, why did Beth put those stupid lines in the game in the first place? Totally unneeded and totally illogical in my opinion.

I know exactly what you mean. "of course I'm not looking for trouble, this is my house!". Housecarls have dialogue to talk to you as their thane so they should use it when you enter the house, not just when you talk to them.

It seems to consistantly happen to me if an NPC was half-way through talking with me while I was outside, then entering Breezehome before that NPC finishes talking. He/she will somehow spawn inside the house with me, and Lydia will go "are you lost?".

I even have guards following me into my homes! But that's just a glitch. It's these comments that are strange, especially seeing that they've happened to me mostly when I've simply walked in off the street without doing anything beforehand. Nope, I haven't been doing anything nor talking to another NPC before entering that could confuse the game.

Your housecarl really knows that it is you. She is just trying to fool you into thinking that she is on the job, hard at work, defending your property from strangers ... and you.

Yes, it's so annoying, I want to tell my housecarl Iona to "shut up *****!"

one good way to get rid of your housecarls with out killing them is to make them a member of Blades then they will stay and live there permanently and you will have house to yourself.

Happened to me once. Iona, the Riften housecarl, said it to me. I killed her, and then reloaded the save. Soon I will take her out to the wilderness and kill her with no witnesses. She is my least favorite housecarl.

Tiberius (my Imperial) gave Iona to the Blades. Now he's got Honeyside all to himself. :)

Ironpelt (my Khajiit) lives in the Archmage's quarters in Winterhold. So he doesn't have a housecarl problem. :)

But poor Nyx, my Dunmer, owns both Breezehome and Proudspire Manor. So she has two housecarls to contend with. :(

I actually came up with some good snarky responses for annoying housecarls:

HOUSECARL: "Long life to you, my thane."
DRAGONBORN: "You'll have a short life if you don't shut the oblivion up."

HOUSECARL: "I am your sword and shield."
DRAGONBORN: "Well swords and shields don't talk, so neither should you."

HOUSECARL: "Honored to see you, my thane."
DRAGONBORN: "I'd be honored if you'd glue your mouth shut."
