If you chose dunmer in the beginning sequence, the guard will say that the gods have turned their back on your kind.

I'm a little curious of this myself, I was certainly glad when I heard in the lore section that it happened.

So far I haven't found much lore in game relating to the 200 years since the Oblivion Crisis.

They probably feel a bit embarrassed about it.

"So yeah, those inferior beast races? Totally kicked our butts. Oh boy."

Side note: An Argonian invasion would be insane. I just envision this army literally just walking out of the ocean armed to the teeth and covered in barnacles...

The Argonians never killed any Dunmer.

Because a Dunmer who allows herself or himself get killed by an overgrown lizzard walking on two feet isn't even worthy of being called a Dunmer in the first place!

Only references in game (outside of the in-game books) to the post-Oblivion world is everyone talking about The Great War (Empire vs Aldmeri Dominion)

And yet they lose their land all the same.

We didn't even want it. It was ugly and smelled like farts everywhere you went. And I think everyone has lung cancer.

I've always been under the impression they attacked Vvardenfell and not the Main Land.

After the events of the Oblivion crisis, Vivec left Morrowind, to where no one knows. The Ministry of truth was held above the city of Vivec by Vivec channeling his energy. When Vivic left Morrowind for untold reasons the ministry of truth crashed in the Morrowind, destroying the city of Vivec and causing Red mountain to erupt which led to Vvardenfell being utterly covered in ash and lava, a period of time know as "The Red Year". Morrowind was in political strife and uncertainty with the whole event. The Argonians seeing this as an opportunity to concur their hated enemies the Dunmer marched into Morrowind taking the province completely. The remaining Dunmer were forced to seek refuge on the island of Solsthiem.

There's a quest to find the origin of a Dunmer in Riften that includes a journal.
Spoiler
In it, one of the last Telvanni writes that the Argonians invaded around 4E6 and destroyed the House Telvanni; he was able to get his infant son out on a ship. The journal mentions the Dunmer having had to bury the dead and the land covered in ash and debris.
