The game closes itself when the GFWL update bar is full and nothing happens. I try to launch the game and it still says I need to update. Help?

I'd never had a problem with GFWL before, but this is ridiculous. Calling support did nothing.

Try to install the update from online rather than through the game.

Is it trying to update GFWL or the game? If GFWL, you should be able to just install the latest version of GFWL.

I don't know if the client you linked to is the correct one. Could be some marketplace specific crap that you don't need. Try this: http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-us/live/pages/livelaunch.aspx

Edit: Actually your link should be fine too, the .exe it downloads has the same name so I assume it's the same thing.

IIRC, this is fixed by either updating Physx or manually installing the latest game patch.

...the patch installs to some temp folder that I can't change and it says that AA cannot be found. Fantastic.

I had this issue when I bought Halo 2. I ended up just downloading the patch online and it worked fine.
