Could it be that your dark elf is to high a level for armor like that? I have had that happen to me...

@wollibeebee: "doesn't work" is hard to diagnose. Does it crash? if so, is it when added or equipped? If it doesn't crash, is it not showing up at all, or is it showing up as a diamond with and exclamation point?

@Xargoth: Are you sure on that? Morrowind doesn't have min/max requirements for armor.

I have had that happen to me, yes. I lowered the npc's stats, and it worked. I think the npc "rejects" things that are too low for him. But I could always be wrong...

NPCs will always wear whatever armor protects them the best or no armor if their unarmored skill is higher than their armor skills. So, an NPC would wear glass over daedric if their light armor skill was higher than their heavy armor skill.

What if you used the equip command doesn't that override it?

Narfblat: it just doens't appear on him.. no ctd or anything

jac: after what you said about unarmored and all that i think i'm gonna lower his unarmered skill to like 1? (all his skills are 100)

edit: i wrote 0 instead of 100

Glad you got it to work. I thought you meant you added the item to the player character, not some npc. :)
