Quite the opposite. Just maybe, this is the chance for mages to finally break the 'glass cannon' mould and throw out spelly goodness without dying in one shot. Let's not criticize a build's viability until we've actually seen it in PvP.
Uh, no. Trust me when I say this is wrong.
We've been told these things from the start, by the way. "If you want to be better with magic stuff, wear more magic oriented armor." Its a no brainer. Having additional stamina/stealth capability/sturdiness isn't terrible at all if you choose to mix and match. I myself will likely be mixing light and heavy armor for the defensive increases at launch.
I love being able to wear whatever armor you want and wield whatever weapon you want and still be viable.
Although some combinations may be more difficult than others, you can potentially pull off any combo you want.
Also, listen to Carde... he's smart!
^ Some work might need to be put in to some builds, but almost anything is possible.
So if there are 7 slots, the best way to mix and match is probably to take 5 from one type of armor (to get the passive) and 2 from your secondary choice.
What are the 7 pieces?
Head, gauntlets, greaves, chest, boots, and maybe shield. what is the seventh one?
shield would go in one of the two weapon slots I believe. Other two are jewellery, i.e. rings, and...dang, now I've forgotten one.
I keep seeing a mage wearing heavy armour using a two handed weapon wreathed in protective magic and using pets to aid him in melee.
