Armor Variation

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 3:12 pm

Hello

When I started playing the game I was pleasantly surprised to find out that low level armors had lots of variation within the same armor type. For example, you could get a standard hide armor, another one with fur on the back and a conan-like shirtless one,all named "hide armor".As I leveled on to higher armors though,I noticed that the variation drops off.

It might be my idea because high level armors are not that easy to come by.Could someone confirm that high level armors like glass or ebony have variants?

Maybe a nice idea for a an Armor/Smithing Mod would be to have a random variant created every time you make, say steel armor.Maybe some minor randomness on stats too to make armor hunting relevant on higher levels.

Expanding on that you could have a lighter/medium/heavier type for each variant. It would still be classed as Heavy/Light armor but would differ in aesthetics (lighter variants have no shoulders) and stats (light armor is a little lighter but offers a little less protection). For example, during a quest I found some "light elven armor" that was exactly the same as "elven armor" minus the shoulders. So far it has been the only subtype that has a different name that I found.

I am still very impressed with the armours though, the variation is so much better than in Oblivion, and the design is awesome, I dont even know how many different types there are, by mistake I happened to see a Deadric armour and a few other ones I havent seen in game yet, they looked AWESOME, but I regret seeing them in screens first instead of ingame, there seems to be so many armours tho, I havent played that much yet, 30 hours maybe and new great armours keeps popping up, and I doubt Ive seen half yet.

One thing I really like is the mask/face of Vokun, it makes me look like Dr Doom, I cant wait to see a reskin for that one.

Another idea would be to have the armors being upgraded aesthetically when you upgrade them as an armorsmith.I really wish I had the first idea about creating stuff in 3d max.Don't get me wrong ,the game is amazing as it is but half of the allure of TES games is taking its individual parts and adding depth that goes far beyond what the dev team is capable of in their development cycle.
