Armour segments

Post » Wed Jan 23, 2013 8:12 am

I wonder how the armour segments will work.. hopefully less Skyrim and more Morrowind...

I want to be able to swap the curaiss, legs, gauntlets, boots, helmet (possibly pauldrons), but i also desperately want separate capes, that i can wear with whatever i want!

What do you guys think?

Im hoping for the same with pauldrons being a definate with belts aswell. Also the seperate capes having hoods that you could toggle up and down over helmets.

The most notable utility of dozens of gear slots (aside from the persuade bonus) was the access to a dozen enchantable slots in addition to armor. That would potentially (depending on how enchantment and gear-sharing works) make a vast gap between the abilities of a newbie's low-level character and a veteran's low-level character, who can easily afford to give it a dozen pieces of pre-enchanted gear (albeit low-level, naturally).
And the slots for gear in Morrowind and Daggerfall (not the same. Not distinguished here):
Head, cuirass, left pauldron, right pauldron, cloak, necklace, shirt, skirt, pants, robe, ring (2x), Main-hand, off-hand, left gauntlet, right gauntlet, feet, greaves.
Skyrim:
Left hand, right hand, body, feet, hands, head, necklace, ring.

I'd hope closer to morrowind, would allow you to be more unique in your class and look, mixing matching heavy and light/ or light and robes etc.
They could design it so that there are weaker enchantments on smaller items, so a pauldron's stat increase would be considerably less than a piece of chest armor. Making the two pauldrons, or boots, have the same stats as if they were treated as 1 item seems like the best way to balance having extra slots.

Based on the screen shots it looks as if the armor is very similar to that of Skyrim. I don't know if they just included screen shots of characters with Matching armor for the sake of it looking better than mismatched pieces, but to me it looks like the cuirass and legs will be attached as one like in Skyrim. I think it would be awesome to have some sort of customizable cloak or tabard for your faction as well as one's to represent your play-style and achievements.

My guess is they will include several more armor slots than in Skyrim to give players more customization options. ZO seem's to be making a HUGE deal out of player options/customization so I would expect them to make the appropriate number of slots and armors necessary to make each person look unique. I'm very interested to see what they plan to do :)
