I recieved the quest to and heat the gem. I went to the farthest west side of the map because 2 of the spots were so close. I did the first burn with no problem. I had the spell in both hands. but i only casted with one hand. i then walked up to the mountain to the second convector and put it and and it did not work. My second burn was also listed as my final burn before it was finished. Thinking that maybe certain convectors were already broken because i remembered arniel stating heating the convectors breaks the equiment. so i went to all the remaining sites and burned the gem for about 30 seconds on each and still same problem. I cant proceed in the quest. I am also playing on the xbox 360s. Not sure if that matters or not. Going back to the first convector that i placed it in did not work. no duplicate, no fix.

yes, i have the same problem, i logged on here to see if anyone else was having the problem and i guess i am not the only one, lol

i also have another problem with the quest: silenced tongues, i can take one ceremonial weapon off the wall but i can't take the one with the draugr deathlord and floor trap spikes in the same room, i don't even get the pop up on my screen that says to press "a" to take the weapon, i tried everything from swinging a weapon at it, to a bow and arrow, even magic wint knock it off the wall either, they should of had testers do EVERYTHING in the game to make sure it was right

Im glad im not the only one having issues but at the same time its a bit irratating. it really seems like a good quest too :/ hopefully it gets patched and it can be completed. Any help would be appreciated! Still not sure if theres a fix

The courier doesn't come to you. You have to find him inside a cave somewhere near Riften.

so does this mean i have to find this courier? or is my game effed? o.0

It gave me a quest marker to find the courier. You are looking for the courier from Morrowind right? That was supposed to deliver Arniel's package? When I was at that point in the questline, it gave me a quest marker to find him.

My quest markers are pointing me to like 6 other of the box's to heat up the warped gem. theres a lot of markers on my map. and when i go to all the boxs and put the gem in and use the spell, noting happens.
i dont get anything about a courier, or anything about morrowind.

Oh ok. You will get to that point later on if you can get the convectors to work. I was mainly replying to the earlier poster about the courier. Do you have a previous save you could go back to? I didn't have any trouble with that. I put the soul gem in and used Arniel's Convection for a few seconds until the quest updated, and went on to the next.

yeah its not that easy for me. i used the first convecter easy. then it told me to go to one final convecter. but every one of the 6 i choose dosent work. at all. i just put the gem in and burn it forever.

Which is exactly my problem.. The quest doesn't update.. IE it stalls after getting the soulgem loaded.
However the entire quest, together with Blood on the Ice and the White Phial seem to be the must sure fire bugged out quests.. so I guess we'll have to wait for a patch..

I have the same problem. Used the first convector in the storeroom outside Mzulft and the quest updated to tell me to use "the final convector," then I used the convector inside Mzulft which produced no quest update. Have now tried 2 other convectors and no update. Can't progress in the quest. Sadface. I don't know if it's relevant but I have both Augmented Flames perks.

Yeah exactly the reason why i started this thread. however i have tried ALL the convectors. bethesda patch our game

I'm having the same issue with the convectors... and other quests too... glad I found this thread through, gives me hope that it might be patched sometime... soon perhaps?

Hopefully patched soon. But its a big game and im sure they are busy patching it as a whole and getting ready for addons so they are busy. but hopefully they dont ignore the bug reports and fix em fast lol. svcks having a game you cant play all the way.

Agreed. I love this game, and I have been having one of the best gaming experiences I've had in a long time. Then I encounter the quest line glitch for Arniel's Endeavor, ok no big deal, I'll just do something else. So I start the Jagged Crown quest line for the storm cloaks, and the symbols on the ebony claw door won't even turn... UGH! two problems in my game, one after another... I suppose I'll just have to be patient and wait to see if it gets patched...

Dang, svcks to hear about that, I just got handed the soul gem portion of his fetch quests. We'll see if I have any better luck.

It is directly related to the Augment Flame perk. Needs to get fixed.

And since we are discussing about the College quests, anyone having trouble with the misc quest Brelyna's Practice? Her spell doesn't affect on me. I hope this get's fixed, since I read the UESPwiki and found out that my Atronach Stone buff interfered, and can't ask her to cast the spell again.

Ditto, I saved before the first convector and it either gives 2 gems or goes right to using the last convector and no way to proceed. Once (on the double gems) the second convector gave me the "talk to Arniel" update but either returning one gem or both he had no dialog options. I saved before starting the first convector and within several stages of each so I was able to try many different combinations multiple times to no avail.
I have both Augmented Flames and from here and other postings around the web I hear that may be the problem.

Platform: PS3 -(not Xbox360 but this is the only place this quest break is listed)
LVL = 47 - No cheats
The Eye of Magnus quest completed
Main Quest at Elder Knowledge - not complete
Civil War quest at Liberation of Skyrim - not complete
Save game file size = 14 MB

Bethesda: I don't know if any of that info helps.
Other bugs in quests too. Pantea's Flute not removed, Strange Amulet remains quest item and cannot be removed, multiple copies of Red Eagles Fury possible after quest complete still marked quest items (if you put one in the holder at Rebel's Cairn the other is no longer a quest item but does not act normal - i.e. You cannot put it in a display, it falls to the ground.) Some cases and weapon holders in houses work, others don't.
Other than that and Dragons flying backwards (LOL) this has been a GREAT game !!!!!!!!
Despite the large Save Game file I have not had any major issues others have reported. I do have to reboot after several hours of game play due to frame rate issues, usually in major towns (as if resources are not being released properly and too much AI work being done). Garbage Collection issue???

I had this bug occur today on my xbox 360 console. The gems duplicated after heating in the first Msulft convector (this was my third convector). Has their been any news on this bug?

Not in a cave. He is in a castle called "Darlklight Tower" that is also connected with a quest called REPENTANCE. When you get there, turn off Arneils Endeavor and complete Repentance and then turn Arneil's Endeavor back on and go back in the castle and get the item for Arneil. If you don't you will run into a major bug with Repentance that will prevent you from completing it. I found all this out the hard way and ended up having to loose several hours of gaming accomplishments to go back to a previous save and start Repentance again but this time I turned arneil's quest off first. The second time through I was able to complete it, and after that I turned The other quest on and went back in and got the item for Arneil afterwards.
