Arrrgh!

So, I'm currently rolling with a female Nord Assassin-type kinda char. About 16 hours in the game, Level 13. Completed a handful of quests and all that yahoo.

Thing is, I always have the feel that I wanna' start over with a different character. (Have had this feeling in every TES game at some point)

My char is running with Archery, Light Armour, Alchemy, Destruction and Sneak and a bit of one Handed as her main skills, and it feels off at some point. I just feel like having a more specialized character, since she feels too alround-ish... I was planning on making a few playthroughs, but I don't wanna' spoil most of the caves and quests before I eventually decide to start over. I feel like now would be a good time to start a new character, but I'm still having fun with my current one, just have this feeling of restarting with something else which buggers me...

Nnnnnngh!

Backup your save files into a new folder and generate a new character then :ahhh:

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not sure lol

Restart, thats what i did, felt something was missing on my sword and board warrior. Dont force yourself to continue a game where you dont enjoy the character you are playing, it just ruins the fun.

Well, I'd sort of feel strange having another character stalling 'somewhere', if you know what I mean ... I like decisions like that to be final. :)

I find it incredibly annoying that you have to back up your characters like that, manually. I have to assume it's unintentional that creating a new character can completely undo hours of work on an old character.

I dunno'...I've spent the whole weekend with this char, that'd be 16 hours into the toilet. Though this feelings nags on me all the time when I play. God, it's a beautiful game and I get annoyed by such oddities xD

I completely agree, whatever happened to 'named savegame files'.

If you not 100% commited then something isnt right, but I think you need to decide beforehand the constraints of your character. Im a thief assasin type char relying on archery, daggers and I wont ever use magic on this character, healing or otherwise. Set some boundaries and stick to them or yes, some characters can feel a bit of a mush.

The same way I was feeling at the beginning of the game, Piripew. But then I figured out how fun the use of magic was, so I bent the char into a magic/assassin hybrid, which feels wrong. Even more when I still use the occasional dagger.

Or systems like in some older games that give each character an entirely separate list of save files (I believe Mass Effect did this, where each character had their own profile and list of saves you could switch between)?

I did this thing where I spread my magic out between restoration, destruction, and conjuration. Also have leveled my enchanted up to about 45. I'm just going to stick with 1 guy and eventually make him godmode by maxing everything out (if it's possible) :)

Why not start specialising then?

You're level 13.

Your character's a baby.

"Skyrim" is huge, like "Oblvion" and "Morrowind" before it.

Becoming a Lore Master in either of the previous games adversely affects your ability to play the latest release as you keep comparing your current character to your most recent experiences of the previous game where you knew everything.

Weather the storm if you can and enjoy the game.

If it's true to form a variety of different character types should be able to succed in the game.

If you really really really feel bad you could always start fresh.

I'm playing as my "Nord witht he Sword" now but as I play I'm always niggled by the fun I'm missing out on by not playing as a Pure Mage, and eventually as a Rogue etc...

Eventually I'll get to do that though so I'm enjoying what I'm up to now.

Thanks for your reply Azrael. I'll try and see if I can bend my character on the right path. Playing a pure mage is so [censored] tempting though, as well as a confronting Nord barbarian (especially in Skyrim!) But I guess you can't have everything...

Another thing that bugs me: If I do make a second playthrough in future, I'd hate to already know most of the caves ingame, I'm sure you know what I mean. That's why the first playthrough is the most important one, you know ...

That would be an even better idea! I'm sure the combination of patches and mods will eventually make this game amazing, we just have to be patient.
