Ask Bethesda for More 360 D-Pad Hotkeys At This Link:

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 10:06 pm

I have submitted a suggestion to Bethesda to take a look at the hotkey issue on the 360. I have to think there are other people on here that are not happy with only having 2 hotkeys on the D-Pad when there are 2 of them taken up to go to the favorites menu.

LET THEM KNOW HERE BY SUBMITTING YOUR SUGGESTION HERE:

http://www.gamesas.com/eng/contact_email.php

They can fix this, and I believe they will if enough people suggest it!!!!

Yeah one extra hotkey would really help. Maybe it was a technical problem? Idk just throwing stuff out

The whole controller paradigm is garbage really.

They keep things too simple altogether. Many games that have a lot shorter play time have more complicated controls than TES games.

But yeah, I'd like only ONE key to go to the favorites menu and at least three for hotkeys..

I guess, but I think we can get them to look at it.

Let them know! That is the only way they will change it!

Wish we got hotkeys back. The favorites menu gets too cluttered and it can take a while to load (even though it looks loaded, I cannot move up or down to select something for a while at times).

I am in favor of hotkeys or at least several different favorite menus for different stuff (weapons, magic, potions, misc).

I sent em a message but honesty, they are going to focus on things that affect everyone not just xbox players and I'm fine with that

It's my understanding that it is affecting everyone playing on a console, so that is a TON of people. Thanks for sending them a message!

No reason, we can't use DOWN too, right? 3.

Kind of getting used to freezing combat though...

I prefer the way Skyrim works to Oblivion in terms of hot keys. Most notably because I've found that in Skyrim I actually need to make use of every second in combat to pull the right spell. And you can't get your base movement up as realistically high in Skyrim as you could in Oblivion/Morrowind, so the stopped clock is more necessary.

In short I would only support this if the current favorite system remained in place too.

From the looks of it, I think it might be very possible to get an update to the control maps.

I just hope for your sakes they pick a good one when they decide to patch it in.

I recommend to Bethesda to update the controlmap.txt on the consoles to use this scheme if possible.

Back = Favorites
Up,Down,Left,Right = Hotkey 1-4
A + Up,Down,Left,Right = Hotkey 5-8

Who needs a 'wait' button anyway?
IF you really need to rest... it brings the dialog up when you click on a bed anyway.

Also, they need to give you consolers the options to use the "tween menu" or the "quick menu"

Right now I'm playing on the PC with an X-Box controller.
The way it's set up...would make any console player extremely jealous.
And feel like they wasted 60$ on a crappier version of a great game.

Left = Shield
Right = Sword
Up = Bow
Down = Candlelight
A+Up = Healing Hands
A+Right = Healing
A+Left = Fast Healing
A+Down = Potions

Just a small example of what I did for my brothers Nord Warrior that he plays.

Yeah, I probably never would have bought it on the 360 if I had know that the controls would have been so dumbed down from Oblivion, but all I can do now is try to get enough people to mention it to Bethesda to get them to listen.

Be similar for PS3 controller too.

And I use the 'wait' button pretty frequently... and there isn't always a bed around... and don't feel like running to find one, just to wait, then running back when I can simply wait where I am at.
Can move the Wait to the Start Menu though... be fine with that.

It's not that the controls are dumbed down. The options are there.
It's just consoles in general are so restrictive to the user. It's just stupid.

If not for fear of getting banned, you could easily fix this yourself.....but Thank you Microsoft for labeling all modding as "Bad".

really? i find 2 hotkeys enough and the favorites menu IS your hotkey. Oblivion using the controller was soo bad using diags. and it never paused the game while you changed items, i love skyrims favorite menu i can have almost unlimited favorites and it temp stops the game for quick decisions. they didnt have to add the left and right for quick swap just be lucky you got somthign worth not surfing the main menu for

the favourites system in general is crap... removal of hotkeys is terrible. And theres a huge delay when changing from bow to sword in hotkey.

the 8-directional hotkey style was perfect. I bet the reason they changed it was because some [censored] couldnt push diagonal correctly.

They could have used the hotkey system like dark souls.

Have the up be your items, down can be shouts.
Then have the left be your left hand and right be your right hand.

Also, use the wait button for more favorites and move the wait button to the start menu.

The 8 direction hotkey system form Oblivion was as good as you could get for a console controller. The favourites menu in Skyrim is a definite step backwards.

If they insist on keeping the favourites menu as it is, I'd settle for 7 hotkeys and leave up as favourites.

The trouble with that is you are still navigating menus which I think is the problem in the first place.

Playing as a mage you need to swap spells in and out for a single cast, quickly and frequently, and these menus make it feel like a turn-based combat game rather than real-time. The 8-direction hotkeys from oblivion allowed very easy control over a decent number of items/spells instantly.

i just cant see how the favorites menu is crap i can have 20+ things to switch from, all my shouts, daggers swords bows staves and spells easily accessible.

Lag? like when it sheaths the sword you switch to, being realistic is bad? wat

Well, really even if they only just took either up or down on the D-Pad and made it a hotkey it would make a world of difference. There is just no reason to have up AND down to go to the favorites menu. That wouldn't even change anything, but it would give an extra hotkey.

It's not about how many things you can have stored in favourites, it's the fact that you have to effectively pause the game and scroll a list in order to select it. If the d-pad operated as 8 hotkeys (as it did in oblivion) you can grab whatever you need without breaking the flow of the game at all.

You would not need to use the menu, because you could scroll through the spells by hitting left left left for example.
