My Assassin build,opinions please

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 6:22 pm

Finally decided to undertake the adventure of becoming a Assassin or Nightblade.I would like to hear some opinions and maybe ideas about tweaking/improving it.I think its a good build so far based on what i know about the sneak/stealth mechanics in Skyrim.I want to use bound weapons(one handed) and blade of woe or any other good dagger for sneak attacks.Bound bow for backup and the bound swords dual wield, for open combat if i have to.I tought some Alchemy could come in handy, brew some poisons ,health potions.I also thought about picking Illusion but i probably wont need it.

Level 50 build

Race:havent decided yet but probably Imperial or Dunmer

Male

Magika/Health/Stamina:20/50/30

So the main skills would be:One Handed,Sneak
Secondary:Archery,Alchemy,Conjuration,Light Armor

Dragon shouts:marked for death,slow time,wirlwind sprint

Hope you like it and thanks for your opinions guys!

Try using lockpicking too. Get the silent casting perk if you want stealth and magic.

Hmm,i found lockpicking pretty useless. With some expirience i was able to unlock even master locks with a few lockpicks.Lockpicking is totally useless in my opinion.
Tought about Illusion, yes.I think maybe ill take it to get the cast silently perk but iam not sure since i only use Conjuration and it seems like wasted points only to conure bow/sword silenty.I will use a dagger for stealth kills anyway.

Thanks for your opinions Smash

Why would you use Conjuration as an assassin but not Illusion or Destruction?

Glad to help. I think lockpicking is use full for sneaking into houses at night. Its easier than to kill someone in broad daylight

I will use Conjuration becouse i will get daedric weapons very early without smithing skill. And i dont use Illusion becouse i have Alchemy to make invisibility potions(not going to play a assassin mage,so i dont want to pick Illusion or Destruction)

Yes it makes breaking itnto peoples house much easier but its not a must have skill. If you dont have the patience for example, then you could try lockpicking, yes.

I'd also recommend that pickpocket skill for poisons to be placed into people. It's not necessary at all, but it's fun.

Ah that ones a bit better than Ign's,thank you..i had a bookmark somewhere now i have it again.

Also a very good build, your khajiit.I really love how they look in skyrim it almost made me play one, but then again i cant identify myself with a feline/cat like race.Still love the khajiit. So i mostly play humans or Dunmer.I hate the golden skin of the Altmer.Orks are very nice too but iam not much into the beast races.

I think conjuration spells are meant to be one of the loudest schools of spells so not sure it'd really work in an assassin build unless it was just for using when [censored] hits the fan. Also I personally don't think it fits very well with an assassin build. I've tried out a fair few types of assassin/thief builds and definitely found the most fun and rewarding build to be the one that avoided any type of magic. Best advice I could give is just try it out, if ya dont like the build you can always make a new character, I've had to do it plenty of times

Edit: Btw Dunmer make pretty damn cool assassins!

Remember there are no bound daggers in Skyrim.
Only bound swords,battleaxes and bows.
For your sneak attacks you will have to use the bound sword ans x6 damage or a regular dagger for the x15 damage.

If you want to invest perk points in pickpocketing get the perk that lets you pickpocket weapons and equipped items. Makes fighting a whole lot easier

I know and i didnt meantion any bound daggers. As i said, iam going to use blade of woe or another good dagger(normal dagger from dark brotherhood questline) for stealth kills.Bound weapons for normal combat.

Pickpocketing levels very quickly providing a good many skill points. I only put two points into it to get the extra 100 carry weight because then I didn't really need a companion. Companions hold back a sneak character. For me conjuration isn't good for a sneak character unless you're going for a sneaky mage who is also using illusion and maybe a bit of destruction. At the very least you need the silent spells perk or risk blowing your cover every time you conjure a weapon. Be careful too because a miss with a sword alerts your enemies where a miss with a dagger won't. For me the must haves for an assassin type are sneak, 1h, and archery. I leveled up alchemy on mine because it fit the character and high end self made poisons are extremely potent and fun to use. Not to mention extended paralysis potions and invisibility potions are amazingly effective.

You're right about the pickpocket stuff.Ill see if i can include them into my build somehow. And about those bound weapons..i want to use them becouse they have the same base damage as a daedric weapon(same model too) and becouse they look pretty nice but you're right its not necessary for a Assassin, still its fun.

I like it. :D

I was thinking of doing something similar in my next playthru. I've been using followers a lot because a stealth character can be difficult, especially early on, unless you don't mind sneaking a lot outdoors and/or doing a lot of running away to avoid melee. I'm rather late game now and have started experimenting with conjuration (partially with an eye toward the next playthru) with the idea that the summons could help with crowd control and provide distractions in melee situations, and the bounded weapons not only help with encumbrance but imply less need for smithing and (maybe?) enchanting.

In my experiments so far, and even though I don't have it, I can see the benefits of getting silent casting. I love to snipe with a bow and even at a distance, casting bound bow can alert others to your presence (some more than others; and I'm still learning how to reduce the risk).

The only consideration I might add is the question of how important reduced casting enchants will be (thus, the '?' about needing that skill/perks)? How many level points to plan on spending on magicka? Although if you don't plan on using summons (only bound weapons) then adequete magicka is probably less of an issue.

Illusion could be helpfull for a sneaky guy, since it can cast things like invisibility.

Even a single casting of bound bow gives it 2 mins. And you cant' beat essentially endless arrows....and 24 damage ones to boot! That's equal to Daedric.

After I cleared an area I'd cast it and it would usually last until I entered the next fighting chamber (I used it only for sniping). Once my magicka got high enough I dual cast it, for 4 mins duration. Upgrading to mystic bow (with soul stealer perk) was essential for me as well. I wasn't much of a smith and so this mystic bow was the most powerful bow I believe you can have if you don't smith.

You mention getting daedric weapons without smithing them? Is that a PC- modification thingy? Sigil Stone? (requires conjuration 90 I htink)

I would go illusion over any other magic school on my assassin build.. Invisibility, fear, calm etcetera.. Awesome :) Stealth cast fury and watch your target go mayhem in broad daylight :)
