Augmented flames or shock

aspect of terror doesn't raise my destruction magic damage...maybe your using it with something else that somehow raises your flame damage
It definitely does (fire damage only). I've done with two characters in a row based on reports in UESP that I have confirmed.

I thought only impact affected dual casting? Or does it not matter for the sake of the illusion perk?
It might be a glitch (in fact, the whole thing might be a glitch) but if you don't have impact, you don't get the augment effect on the AoT bonus. Of course, impact doesn't affect flames normally anyway so who knows how the mechanics work. The bottom line is easy though: If you have two levels of fire augment and impact, your flame spell will display at 27 damage per second, single cast.

Both are useful, but I tend to use shock. It does use more magicka though.

One of the coolest moments I had in Skyrim was with this warrior who used shock only for magic. I went to Northwatch keep, shouted storm call (got the idea from someone on the forum), used lightning cloak on myself, and started swinging at the ennemies (avoiding spoiler) inside the fort with a shock enchanted weapon. There was lightning everywhere. Bodies were frying. It was beautiful.

While we're on the topic of these perks... do they affect the related rune damage?

While we're on the topic of these perks... do they affect the related rune damage?

From UESP bugs section under destruction:

Many effects are not correctly affected by the Augmented Fire, Augmented Frost, and Augmented Shock perks. These perks rely upon the MagicDamageFire, MagicDamageFrost, and MagicDamageShock keywords to identify which magic effects should be enhanced by the perks, however many spell effects are missing those keywords, whereas other effects incorrectly have them. Specifically:
  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Fire_Rune and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Flame_Cloak are not affected by Augmented Fire.
  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Frost_Rune and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Frost_Cloak are not affected by Augmented Frost.
  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Lightning_Rune and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Lightning_Cloak are not affected by Augmented Shock.
  • All http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Damage_Stamina enchantments are affected by the Augmented Fire perk.
Not sure if Fire Rune has the "fear" effect that causes Aspect of Terror to give the bonus.

EDIT: According to the UESP all fire spells have the "fear" effect so they should get the AoT bonus. But under the UESP section on Fire Damage it says all fire damage spells are affected by the Augment perk contrary to the quote from the UESP above.

Bits of frost and then flames against the standard axe-swinging Talos worshipping heretic. Lighting works wonders on the few magic-using ones.

For Alinor's glory.
