Auriel's Bow Should Be Much Stronger

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 3:43 am

I think many of you will agree that a bow wielded by Akatosh that is found in legend should be much more powerful. It does a measly 60 damage for me without upgrades while a Dragonbone bow does 98 and a Dwarven Crossbow does 107. The fact that it has a relatively weak enchantment makes this worse.

In my opinion it's the best looking bow in the game. But much like the Nightingale bow it is too weak for it's status and appearance.

x3 undead damage iirc. Coupled with the Sunhallowed arrows, it's a bawss bow.

Crossbows are meant to be stronger, and dragon bone is meant to be Top Tier. Not to my liking but, I'm never gonna use it anyway. I'm shallow in Beth games. Pure cosmetics for me. And that bow looks nice.

If it still oneshots most mobs which it prolly does then it doesn't matter too much that another bow is more powerful.

Once your character is maxed out archery and you have a few pieces of +damage enchants, you can practically run around owning people with a hunting bow and steel weapons on near hardest difficulty.

I think if it was wielded by Akatosh himself, the bow would be OP, but since we're only Dragonborn, it's almost like a normal bow (still, my favorite design :))

did you happen to improve the bows because after taking elven and dragon smith perks auriels bow wasnt much weaker and it pulls a lot faster at 100 smith with potions, enchantments, etc. Auriels dmg foer me is 482 and dragon is 523 not a lot considering it shoots about .75x the speed

Unenchanted, & of average quality. But pretty. I used it quite often with a custom enchantment.

I do agree that it should be stronger though. It's only real plus is the eclipse/orbital strike powers it gives arrows.
I'm a bit peeved that my dwarven crossbow is nearly twice as strong as the weapon of a god, one of the most powerful gods.

Ah but did the Dwemer not rival the power of the Gods before they vanished?

But you got to figure it controls the sun.

They wish. Nah, I still like it honestly. It's nice to have one of my favorite artifacts, & one of the few Aedric artifacts back. And it is still gorgeous.

You I know, & the crazy sun damage barrage you get with sun-hallowed arrows is awesome. But, I would like it if it were a bit more useful as a bow.
I generally prefer my bows to be effective bows, as opposed to effective orbital targeting devices. But ah well.

I did notice that the bow is effected by the Elven smithing perk. So we can already improve it a lot better than we can most artifacts. That and the fact that we can make arrows now, and get those arrows made sunhallowed or bloodied (I currently have 500 sunhallowed arrows) makes the bow pretty awesome. Also did anyone notice that Auriel's Bow basically turns sunhallowed arrows into light-beams that explode on contact with anything, even walls? It's awesome, I tried it with other arrows and they definitely don't do that.

I do think it should be stronger, but I don't mind much as I still do damage with it. And I love the enchantment, that's 60 extra damage to draugr and whatnot, and 20 to everything else. But it should take more than a common soul to fill

I think the Elven smithing perk also effects the ancient falmer armor.

My view is: seeing as the bow has, presumably, been kept in that shrine for thousands of years (seeng as the sanctum was not properly used since the decline of the falmer, and recently it was locked away, and possibly had some damage done to it by a certain undead snow elf. I would say that it is probably nowhere near it's full potential as it has been disconnected from the sun (it's connection to Aetherius) for all that time

You actually don't need elven smithing to upgrade the bow or armor of the falmer, the bow only requires the magic smithing perk.

I know, it just gives the benefit, like when ever you have a perk in that material, it upgrades much better.

Yea true true, though most people just spam potions due to that game breaking exploit. >.>

it works really good against undead, and with the sunhallowed arrows you get the sunburst area affect thing, which is neat looking. As for actual damage its outclassed by the end teir bows, but its unique effect and pretty look make it worth more than putting on a weapon rack.

Actually it and sunhallowed arrows are all i used against harkon in the boss battle, pretty epic.

It does haha, I'm using both the armor and the bow. It's a sick looking combo, especially with my sunhallowed arrows on ma' back!

120 damage when fully upgraded, with a extra 50 points of damage to the undead would be fine for me.

I got it waaay past that with enchanted smith armor and a potion. Damage is plenty. Especially against undead.
