Australian Price of Skyrim

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 7:49 am

I tried like hell to get around around the region locking at D2D and on steam. But even with VPN's my attempts were blocked.

Why is that Bethesda's games (not alone seemingly all AAA titles) have there prices cranked up to 11 for Australians?

US = $59
Australia = $89

Australian Dollar is basically at parity with the US, meaning 59 US is the same as 59 AU.

Why did I have to pay $30 more for the privilege?

Also why did I have to pay $25 more for my PC version than the Xbox 360 version?

You probably had nothing to do with this last one, why was it $79 in shops and $89 for a digital version, that makes 0 sense??? WTF

Cheers any response would be much appreciated. Every time this question gets asked we get fobbed off and told a bunch of nonsense about tax, and various other things. But steam is TAX FREE, we are downloading from US servers so it isn't shipping either, and its got nothing to do with the use of undersea cables and they're costs. So what the bloody hell is it?

My theory is its Australian retail forcing your hand, some one tell me!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!! I need to know who to blow up, I'm not a fan of indiscriminate carpet bombing.

Pro-tip: get a foreign friend to gift it to you. This is a legitimate way to get the game for its actual price.

Obviously have someone you trust, wire them the money and bamslam you have the game.

Maybe the Australian version works on Standard televisions
I'd pay $20 more for a game with readable text.

Because everyone gets annoyed with Australia winning so many gold medals at the Olympics and saying they are the 'Lucky Country'

Adobe puts the difference down to "customer research that assesses the value of the product in the local market". In other words, dropping the price here won't pay off in terms of incremental sales. It's the old elasticity of demand argument. Put another way, they're all saying, "Let's charge those Aussies more because they'll grin and bear it".

I paid the same for Skyrim as I do every other game, but the price of (console) games in Australia is expensive and I'm not entirely sure why. I'd love to know.

Whats the story for the standard strategy guide $ 50 Aus that's just theft. Normally I try and wait a couple of months. I just picked up the Witcher 2 for $ 47 but I could not wait for Skyrim.
