Backstab gloves? (jester's, cicero's, ancient shrouded)

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 9:11 pm

All,

I love playing backstab stealth characters, but I am not interested in joining the Dark Brotherhood.

What gloves exist that give x2 backstab? I see Jester's Gloves, Cicero's Gloves, Shrouded Gloves and Ancient Shrouded Gloves. Are there others?

Can I get any/all of them without joining the Dark Brotherhood?

Thanks!

As much as I understood you can find ancient shrouded armor in Hag's end, and you can go there without being a member of DB, but I don't know how, yet. If anyone knows, please explain. I am a member of DB, btw.

Addendum: Where can I get the "mage" assassin outfit that two of them have, without killing them.

I heard that the chapel in the DB sanctuary has them. Can I just sneak in and get them, or start murdering DB guys for them? Maybe I could find the most annoying npc, kill them, join the DB, steal them, then never do any DB quests and/or just murder all the DB? :) Oh, irony!

You don't just murder any random NPC to join the DB, there is an actual quest to join. You can do that one quest and then no others if you choose

Also I swear on UESP they implied that the ancient shrouded ones were craftable. But not sure.

LAST quest? Well, that defeats the purpose of being a mage in the DB, if I can't get appropriate gear until the LAST quest.

You can't get into the sanctuary without starting the Dark Brotherhood quests - and i'm fairly sure that all of the members are flagged as essential - to begin with, at least.

But yeah, you could just do the first quest and then never complete the follow-up quests. If you're going for an Assassin type of character, though, there's no good reason not to join the Brotherhood - it's an amazing quest line.

You can get the robe version of the armor in the first room of the sanctuary -- they are on the shelf across from Astrid's desk.

Actually, I think you can get the gloves without "joining" the DB.

Go through the quest to deal with the orphanage- which is a "lead-in" to the DB questline. Afterwards, you will be kidnapped, and given a choice of targets to kill as a "repayment" to the DB. At that point, you can "choose" a 4th option (it's not expressed), and if you go that route, you will receive a quest to destroy the dark brotherhood- essentially to go to their hideout and kill all of them. You should also be able to loot a set of DB armor at that point.

This is all quite true. The only hangup would be if you are RPing a character that doesn't murder because you still have to murder somebody to get to those choices. Sure the person you murder is a [censored] but it's still murder.

You would miss out on the best quest line I've encountered so far though if you skip the DB quests.

Ikar,

Thanks. I am RPing a character that would kill an evil person, just not somebody that would join the DB. So I will try that option. Thanks!
