'bad allocation' error in Oscape

Are large worldspaces above 4x4 quads basically a no-go??

I'm trying to generate land LOD for a large worldspace I've created a heightmap for. Generation in Oscape sometimes runs for a short while, and sometimes throws up an error mesage almost straight away, but each time a 'bad allocation' error message will come up. I'm also unsure which 'target of max resolution' option to select in the dropdown list in Oscape's generator tab. With the heightmap .raw file loaded in Oscape, I don't actually get any specific options of 256,000 or 320,000 1/1 of 1000 per tile (as which are suggested in tutorials) that show in the target of max resolution dropdown list, so naturally I imagine I have to select something else for generating from a larger worldspace heightmap, but to be honest I don't know what?? I've tried a few different options now to no avail.

The .esm for this worldspace loads ok in Skyrim, so no problem there.

If you think that setting is the problem, choose the lowest possible option for it, and that should sucessfully generate. If it still fails, then it sounds like something else is stopping it.

If it succeeds then you can crank the setting up one at a time until it fails again, so you can get the highest quality possible.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Have tried what you suggested but to no avail. It seems to be able to generate for longer on the lower settings, but it will still throw up the same error message eventually. I'm just wondering how creating LOD for worldspaces larger than 4x4 quads is possible, as I've read about a few people who have managed it. It may be that it's something to do with my heightmap, I dunno...

I decided to do a heightmap as I was previously creating a worldspace without having done one (just editing the terrain in the CK as I went along). I was happy doing it like this to be honest, but as I wanted to do a pretty large worldspace I found my biggest concern was how big a worldspace it would actually allow me to build doing it that way? I got the impression my worldspace size would be limited (to say 4x4 quads at the most?) unless I created my worldspace from a heightmap first of all.

I've been experimenting over the last few days with trying to import 8x8 and 16x16 quad heightmaps (generated in L3DT), converting the .esp to .esm, then trying to generate land LOD in Oscape on numerous different 'target of max res' settings, but I just can't get pst this stage and Oscape usually either seems to stop part way through generation or throw up the 'bad allocation' error. It's a shame because I can load the .esm files in Skyrim without any problem and walk around in the large worlds, but just without the distant LOD.

Edit: I just managed to create full LOD for an 8x8 quad worldspace I did a quick heightmap for. It seems I omitted changing a setting in L3DT within the export to RAW file settings which prevented Oscape from generating as it should have. So I'm hoping to do a decent, more detailed heightmap later and that that will work.
