So basically, Dragonborn will by Skyrim's Shivering Isles?

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 2:12 pm

That's how I'm imagining the Dragonborn DLC being.

Am I wrong to assume this? I haven't kept up with news regarding Dragonborn.

Shivering Isles is a WHOLE new realm it's suppose to be an Oblivion like Realm and with Dragonborn DLC the location for this DLC was actually part of the Morrowind Expansion Bloodmoon

Okay... The really devoted fan part of me wants to yell at you about how you "haven′t played it yet".
However, I'm inclined to agree.

Shivering Isles was amazing for many reasons.. I doubt that Dragonborn will have all the traits Shivering Isles did.. First off, in Dragonborn, your on a island that is quite similar to Skyrim itself but by adding in the Volcano in the background and having a giant mushroom biome it does set it apart a bit.. Shivering Isles was completely new and never seen before, except it did have mushroom biome but quite unlike Morrowind's and it was the basis for the fall forest I thought.. I am assuming people who have played bloodmoon may not be as amazed as a person going to Solstheim for the first time.. The story in Shivering Isles in my opinion was the best story Bethesda has ever made.. And not just the story, but the quests were very fun and interesting.. Also the building designs were the best of Bethesda in my opinion.. Shivering Isles stands out as to why Quality will always beat Quantity.. If the final version of Skyrim was about half the landmass and they just put loads of story into that half.. It would be far more interesting then a huge landmass full of boring quests and people.. This is just my thought as to why Skyrim wasn't as successful as other games of their's.. I could be wrong entirely and the ones to blame would be the writers.. Another possibility is that they built quests around locations and not locations after quests.. You are limited a lot more when you have a final product and you are just trying to figure out what to do with it.. My opinion doesn't go for everybody because people have different likes and dislikes but I am sure other people share my thoughts..

I never liked how people said they liked Shivering Isles because of its landmass alone.. It was the big picture which set it apart..

I with it would be like Shivering Isles, but I try not to hope for something and not get it..

I think anyone who's played DG and went into the Soul Cairn is expecting disappointment. I hope they learned their lesson from that and did better.

it adds a new land to explore, so like shivering isles in that regard.

I'd say this will be the big dlc for skyrim

I've really been spoiled by the Shivering Isles. After experiencing that and the Oblivion Gates, no other plane of Oblivion can compare. I mean--the Soul Cairn didn't have villages (much less a large city), dungeons, or very many quests like the SI. Doubt Apocrypha'll be full of stuff to do either. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, though!

This. Yeah the soul cairn was pathetic.

I mean, visually- it was right on. But there should have been more layers, perhaps even dungeons and definitely needed FAR more quests.

Well this is in a society that literally doesn't go forward in terms of science and population.. Also land doesn't change.. People build around the land and not the land is built around the people (if that is even possible..)

agreed
it looked cool and everything, but it was so... bland
no villages, 2 tiny ass quests, enemies that were just reskinned ones from the vanilla game, 1 pathetic 'dungeon' that had nothing worth going in after
i was expecting at least like a village or two inhabited by spirits and maybe 2 new creatures
but i think apocrypha will be better
nowhere near the size of shiv isles of course
but it looks like theres TONS more to do than the soul cairn offered

Yeah the place definitely had the aesthetics down, it was just the lack of content. It didn't need a village imo, I would say it just needed more places to see in it and more quest.

Hopefully with this new realm, there is more quests and areas to explore.

I don't think Bethesda could pull another Shivering Isles, that was their master piece in terms of add ons, so I'm not getting my hopes up for something of that quality. I will be happy though with something that improves greatly on DG... But then that shouldn't be too hard.

It made us forget to moan about Oblivion being nothing like Morrowind for a while so yes it was THAT good. Seriously though yes, it was that good. If you every get a chance to play it, DO and you will see why.

I'm praying that Apocrypha isn't just one big combat arena, which seems to be the gist of what the trailer showed. I imagined Hermaeus Mora's realm to be much different.

The Shivering Isles was more like the expansion packs of the late 90s than the DLCs we get these days. It had a map about 1/3 the size of the base game with completely different scenery, all new enemies, a huge new city and a few smaller settlements, an in-depth main quest and tons of side quests. It was great, it looked nothing like Cyrodiil (it even had all new plants with their own alchemy ingredients) and felt like a whole new game. Anyway, if you go expecting something like that with Dragonborn you're going to be disappointed. For one thing, I think the Shivering Isles cost somewhere around twice what Dragonborn will, right? I don't remember exactly, but it was significantly more. Best case scenario I expect Dragonborn to be comparable to Point Lookout for Fallout 3. Personally, I think the DLC model we have these day is awful. Expansion packs gave us much more value for our money and were far more satisfying experiences than the DLCs we're getting.
