Bathrooms

So I'm eating lunch thinking about skyrim and it hit me. Beth never puts bathrooms or outhouses in TES. Anyone ever notice this?

yes and it's been discussed countless times before.

i understand the whole immersion thing but if i want to use a bathroom i just pause the game, get up and go. if you play a game just to take your toon to the bathroom.....well, i can recommend a good therapist.

I think Bethesda realized this, coming off of Oblivion, because they loaded Fallout to the brim with bathrooms.

Perhaps they'll make an appearance in Skyrim.

I have wondered about this before. Seems like they haven't put children in previous games either, so it's like they just don't exist even though it doesn't make sense for them not to.

You ever seen a bucket in Oblivion? Yeah. Also some of those ceramic bowls.

Yes, there were bathrooms in Fallout.

There are plenty of bushes and alleyways available for such things.

Playing the human centipede with the adoring fan does the trick.

Just find yourself a bush and crouch behind it.

I always assumed that people in Tamriel use chamber pots.

No need for bathrooms here.

I believe there will be children in skyrim....oh no....THE MUD CRABS WILL GET THEM!!!!

The day was piece, the sound of playing children filled the air. Now was a good time to live, there was nothing to worry about other than dragons and honestly what was the chances of one coming? Then the sound of screaming children filled the air and what was that? The sound of claws?

It's a middle ages themed game, they had no concept of sanitation back then. So everyone just goes wherever they happen to be standing when the urge hits.

I'm glad they didn't put THAT in. Just picture it.

Fallout took place in THIS world. But it still didn't give you any reason to USE the bathrooms... other than looking for treasure in the tank, of course ;)

I want bathrooms only if the game gives me a reason to use em! And then... we're in Sims territory ;)

Which, btw, is not a BAD thing. I LOVE the sims. And with the whole marry-and-decorate-your-home thing, TES is moving more and more in that direction... you can even catch butterflies now, just like in The Sims 3...

OK, just like the rest of you guys, I'm only posting to fill the time till I can start playing.

... wait, had to reply to this: "So everyone just goes wherever they happen to be standing when the urge hits"

That wasn't QUITE the case in the middle ages. Or in the large number of places in the world today where there's no modern plumbing. There is a whole range of solutions, from outhouse-like affairs to going down to the river or ditch to chamberpots (to be emptied in a strategic location).

Indeed, if you entered private quarters in Oblivion, you would often find Pewter Pots or Silver Urns next to folks' beds. I assumed their purpose was as toilets.

Alessia Ottus, I'm fairly sure, mentions crap running through the streets in her guidebooks.
