Battlemage and holy trinity?

Post » Fri Jan 25, 2013 8:31 pm

Hello everyone! As a both mmo player and TES fan im excited of fact that beta is really soon. I'm curious, how a battlemage will suit the holy trinity? In my eyes, battlemage is a guy who uses plate armor, 1h sword/axe, conjuration, destruction(fire/lighting) and alteration magic(sometimes enchanting, and restoration). So, if i chose warrior archetype my spells might be too weak, same way when i chose mage archetype my melee abilities will be bad. Also i'm afraid i'll be "jack of all trades" and it will hurt my pve experience. Whats your opinion on that? Cheers.

From what I have read you will have a choice, you can probably get 75% of the way up the stamina tree and 75% of the way up the magika tree, or go 100% in one and 50% in the other. So if you pick the stamina skills you will probably be able to tank, but your magic spells will suffer for it. I would imagine 75/75 is less feasable, at least in PvE where things probably are balanced around a 100% dedicated tank.

This is assuming such things are possible, many MMO's frown on the 'ranged tank' concept.

Since we don't yet know how the classes/skills are set-up I'm not even fully sure what a Battlemage will look like, but regardless I would imagine that someone who is more damage focused "Battlemage" would fall into the category of DPS with a side support role. I highly doubt you'll be able to be "jack of all trades" in ESO though, I'm sure there will be some restrictions in place to prevent that and as long as you build whatever class you end up with well I couldn't see you having any PvE problems or anything of the sort as it's quite a viable option.

TESO is a trinity MMO and it has roles.

Saying that, you can use any weapon and wear any armor that you want but their are penalty doing so. A warrior using a staff will only have access to two of the skills of that weapon and they will not have access to the special skills that staff would give a mage or a caster. You are never going be as powerful as a mage would with that weapon, the same goes for a mage wearing heavy armor.

If a mage wears heavy armor then he will not have access to magical stats that wearing light armor would give. Fact is you are at your most deadliest wearing your class armor and welding your class specific weapon.

If i play a rogue and decide to use a bow then i will have a light bow skill and perhaps a heavy bow skill, i would only use the bow to pull or kill runaway mobs or if i'm above another player in PVP. I draw the mob in with the bow then i go to work with the weapons that will make me as powerful as can be, they are daggers.

While I agree with this, I do recall hearing that, even if you don't get the bonuses, and all that stuff, that does not mean you will be useless doing those things, there may be situations where going in to melee is pure dumb, so a warrior can shift to a bow.

They clearly stated, that it WILL do damage, of course, as Sheek said, it won't be optimal, but it WILL be noticeable damage/heal.

My point would be that its not just for the look that you are able to do that, from what I understood, you are effective doing other things outside your class range, so I just wanted to let people know that its not just for the visual, it can actually be a tactic to employ, and not be useless at it.

While all that sounds reasonable - where did you get it from?

Okay watch these two vid they are the best vids on combat to date.

The second VID really goes into detail about it, he even mention having a light bow skill and a heavy one, on top of that he describes a rogue using a staff as well.

Enjoy. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2012/05/29/the-tactical-combat-of-the-elder-scrolls-online.aspx

I wish they would transcript the videos, I have plenty of time at work to read but no sound, and when I get home I have more to do than watch all the videos :( So I have only watched a few so far.
