Where the hell do they go to?

Random numbers of bear pelts (all versions) keep disappearing out of my inventory. I do not sell them and do not put them into any containers. I'm trying to gather ten of them for that one character and already was up to 9/10 twice but next time I collect one, it says "Found 3/10bear pelts" or something and I check the inventory: pelts are gone.

Now it happened again, I pick up a pelt and it says: "1/10 found".

You can use them to make leather. Have you been making leather out of them?

Yea unless you look closely you may not know what is being used to make the leather.

Hm ... will not say I know for sure I didn't but I rarely ever produce anything besides potions.

When Crafting leather if you use the leather (4) you use a bear pelt.

If it is really a bug then using the console on PC can fix it with

I was doing the exact same thing and realized I had turned them all into leather. After that I started storing them in a chest at the house so I'd stop forgetting and turn them into leather.
