BEHESDA: Please fix FROST SLOW EFFECT!

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 4:02 pm

We all know that the ice-related spells should also slow their opponents > see "SpeedMult" effect connected to all Ice Spells (except Frost Rune for an unknown reason).

But the game fails to apply it because actor speed is only checked when you do an action that changes your speed. As long the "frosted" target does not start to sneak/block the change in speed is not applied.

Wuh?

If you mean one frost mage can stop you dead in yer tracks with impunity because they can run backwards at the same speed as you can run forwards at the best of times...let alone now frostfoot has set in?

Cause Id kill that quicker than most dragons kill NPC's you were trying to save.

The problem I have with slow is that the effect can almost completely freeze my character in one spot, but the effect usually does nothing to enemy except in few cases..
Also when this works it seems to slow dragons too which is kind of silly.

This. ^ I very rarely see an enemy being slowed down by my frost spells, but when my character gets hit he/she can hardly move. Annoying.

The Problem is that YOU are slowed down because you probably block/sneak, so the SpeedMult effect that is on ALL frostspells (yes your own too) changes your movement speed to 50%.
ENEMIES hit by frost spells are usually not slowed down because they seldom block/sneak and so the game doesn't check their movement speed. In fact your frost spells DO reduce the movement speed of enemies, but the game just doesn't check it until they DO something that changes their movement speed. Result: If you fight an enemy, that is e.g. dual-wielding and therefore cannot block, the game never checks his movement speed and thus you can not slow him down. This makes it extremly anoying for mages who use frost.

The hell... You'd think that the variable itself would be changed when the spell affected the target.
Stupid Bethesda not doing their job properly. Thank goodness the creation kit is out

I'm not exactly sure of the specifics (Under the hood), but there does appear to be some inconsistencies in how frost spells apply their slow (For example, the slow never appears to be applied if I dual-cast; the most consistent way that I have had the slow effect applied is to just continuously tap the frostbite spray in one hand). Would be nice if it was fixed, as the secondary effect of Frost spells (Damage Stamina) seems to be rather useless. I say this because it appears as though enemies can sprint and power attack even if they're drained to zero stamina and you can't make their stamina go into the negatives like you could in Oblivion.

In any case, I approve this thread.
