Being a melee purist...

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 2:12 am

When I played through Morrowind and Oblivion I did so without using any magic at all. Now Skyrim has this concept of dragon shouts and im just wondering if you guys think one can get through the game without using them even once? Dont get me wrong, i think dragon shouts seems awesome, but my characters has always been about using brawn and relying on melee combat :)

Great quality on these forums I must add, been sitting here and hyping for a couple of days now!

I don't see why you would have a problem, other than you are missing out on some cool [censored].

I have done it in the past as well, but with a stealth oriented character.

It's cool, but with the old style scaling of levels it became really redundant to have to hit someone with a sword 30 times to kill them.

On the other end, it raises the question if i could play the whole game using only dragon shouts.

it would be like a fiery screamo concert

Well if your doing the MQ you HAVE to show the Greybeards your power by using a Dragonshout. Sorry only way. P.S. from leaked footage.

I plan on playing without Shouts.

If I want to play as a battle mage on a subsequent playthrough, i'll use them.

Well of course i will have to use shouts if its needed to progress the MQ but otherwise i will try not using it at all with my first character

Question: do you consider racial Lesser Powers (like Imperial charm, or Dunmer summon ghost) to be magic and/or do your "melee only" characters not use them?

Because I'd put the shouts in the same category of innate abilities, rather than "it's magic, only a mage can do that".
