after reading the epic known as beowulf i have found some things in this game that reminds me a lot of beowulf. first is high Hrothgar, the building's name is the king's name that beowulf helps. second the gray beards who are the wisest and oldest in the story of beowulf, they are also act like what they do skyrim. lastly ysgrammor to me is a lot like the hero beowulf, he has done something great and his men still honor him even after his death. i want to know if any of you guys have any beowulf references if so post them.

The game itself is based around a lot Anglo-Saxon culture, not just Beowulf. In fact, there was an article I read that said some university offered a class that had playing through Skyrim as part of its curriculum.

So basically, the game isn't purely influenced by Beowulf, mabye some aspects, but mostly on Anglo-Saxon culture in general.

Beowulf was one of the major sources of inspiration already when the genre we call fantasy began to form. (I mean, look at Tolkien, and he wasn't the first.) That Bethesda chose names from Beowulf is for me a nice little wink to the roots.
