Best Elder Scrolls Game

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 7:59 pm

having played them all - modded for most of them and written professional reviews for few of them
Taking into account the actually release date

1. Morrowind
2. Daggerfall
3. Oblivion / Skyrim (I've put these together as I just feel that past the supposed uprated graphics Skyrim feels and plays like a tweaked Oblivion - some bits being better ( levelling) and some bits worse (The UI and less varied character progression)
4. Arena
5. Redguard
6. Battlespire
7. the mobile one

As for the comment about Main quests and Oblivion's being better than MW's - Oblivion's is possibly the worse telegraphed one in the series - totally predictable all the way and not interesting either (why most people didn't bother with it after the first play through)

The 2 things you said worse in skyrim are you nuts?! i can't say how you could possibly love oblivions UI more then Skyrims. Niether is good but Oblivion is worse than this jesus

1.Skyrim
2.Oblivion heavily modded (I used "Francescos Leveled Loot and Creatures Mod" and various texture mods among others)
3.Morrowind using the "Complete Overhaul Mod". This one really does overhaul the graphics and tweaks the gameplay. It's almost a whole new game! Just beware, its a pretty intensive install and tweak process. I recommend printing out the install instructions and following them in hand. This mod really does give this classic new "life" so to speak.

There is one feature in morrowind that I would like to see in the next TES game, and that would be the lack of compass markers. It really added a sense of discovery to the game when all you had to go on was NPC directions!

My favorites are as follows
Skyrim
Morrowind
I hated Oblivion (unmodded that is)

Morrowind I love the game for all its faults and it's currently neck and neck with Skyrim, but once mods come out Skyrim will greatly surpass it.

1. Daggerfall - Does not stand the test of time and technology, but the sheer freedom was insane. Open-world was never so open.
2. Skyrim - It's just really, really good overall
3. Morrowind - Best story and environment, had some problems that Morrowind nostalgists gloss over. As it wasn'y my first ES game, my glasses are less rosy here.
4. Oblivion - I liked it, but it was pretty mediocre too, after OOO it was a lot better
5 - Arena - Meh

100. Battlespire - This is why Beth should never try MP again.

I say Skyrim at the moment. Why? Because it brings the best of Morrowind(the atmosphere) and oblivion(massive world and lots of stuff to do). I never understood why people thought Morrowind was the best(it was my the first TES game). I always thought Oblivion was better. Yeah I said it. I think Oblivion is better. For now Skyrim is my favorite because it's taking the best of both games and making it better.

Strangely enough I've enjoyed Oblivion the most so far. Maybe that's just part of getting older, or good memories I have that came around during Oblivion, but that has been the most enjoyable for me. I love Skyrim too though.

I played Daggerfall but not enough to be able to judge , I was too young and I got bored and couln't undestand english at the time ....

1 morrowind because of the rpg elements , it was a true innovation and it allowed modding ...

2 Skyrim it has lot of new nice improvements like perks , crafting , the graphic finally has a very good look , alchemy , music ok , quests are great story wise more consistent and realistic

3 Oblivion

if Skyrim was not simplified to a kiddish level for consolle it woudl have been 1st place but unfortunately it was ..
I wish they kept attributes , classes , zodical sign , or just remade the whole system but more complex and structured instead than taking an already broken system and break it even more making almoust useless...

Skyrim is the best for me. It added what Oblivion lacked, apart from some of the consolish features, it's a modern Morrowind for me. Morrowind is great but the combat puts it in second place.

You can't compare them all right now, you have to compare them each to when they were new. You can't fire up morrowind for the first time right now and enjoy it because the graphics svck but in 2002 the graphics were jaw dropping. Morrowind was in 2002 better than Skyrim is today. Skyrim today is bettter than morrowind today.

Skyrim is easily the best of the series that I've played. Morrowind was amazing, Oblivion was great, but Skyrim is on a whole different level.

Oblivion was just such a travesty for me that even all the wonderful work modders put into the game still makes me hesitate to put it above Morrowind. Base Morrowind was 10 times the game vanilla Oblivion was in my books. However heavily modded Oblivion does beat Morrowind in playability.

Yet Morrowind's atmosphere is something that I will remember for life and Oblivion's even modded was severely lacking.

As an RPG, Daggerfall is best.
As a dungeon crawler, Daggerfall is best.
As an open-world adventure game, Morrowind is best.

Skyrim and Oblivion (with mods) are both excellent games, but for me they don't really beat Daggerfall or Morrowind at much besides graphics and combat. And if I had to pick between those two, i'd probably go with modded Oblivion... simply because the game has more charm in my opinion, and I prefer the setting.

Skyrim.

I loved Oblivion though and couldn't stand Morrowind (granted, I was a little kid back when I tried to play it). The combat in Morrowind was laughably bad. I did like the atmospohere of Morrowind the best though, I'll give it that.

Skyrim is the best to date (that I've played), but I feel like it doesn't have as much of a soul as the others, if that makes any sense.

I've played Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim.

If each of these games were a box, packed with content: Oblivion would be nearly empty, Skyrim would be half full, and Morrowind's box would be bursting at the seams.

Morrowind has the most bang for the buck, it's the most fun, it's the most interesting, it's the best. Hands down, no discussion needed.

Personally I vote Morrowind. No game has ever been able to emotionally effect me like Morrowind.
But this topic is the topic of so many flame wars it's not even funny.

The real question is:
WHO CARES?!

You like Skyrim. I like Morrwind. She likes Daggerfall and the weird guy in the corner swears Oblivion is the best game ever made.
At the end of the day none of us are changing our minds =D
No reason to fight over it!

It will depend on what you understand by "best".
Technically? Obviously Skyrim
Promninent as a landmark in the industry? Morrowind
Story-wise? Down to personal taste
If I had to choose though I'd take Morrowind without any doubt. Mediocre console ports are the bane of PC gaming, and I think Oblivion was a forgettable title anyway.

Consoles > PC get used to it. On topic, I'd have to say Skyrim.

Ya, except for the lack of mods.

I guess that's easy to say if you've never been a part of the Modding Community n.n

I wouldn't say i'm disappointed with it really. I knew a lot of the game's shortcomings long before it was released, so there weren't really any surprise let downs (except maybe the overly short faction questlines). Overall, it's a great game and i'm enjoying it a lot. I just don't love it as much as previous TES games.

That opinion could change in a year or so's time though, when some good mods are available.
