Best generation for games?

Now that a new generation has begun (eighth generation), what is your favorite gaming generation? For me it's a toss up between SNES/Genesis (4th gen) and N64/PS1 (5th gen). I'd lean towards the N64 though. Worst generation was by far this past one.

But how much of this opinion of yours is due to Nostalgia?

The 16-bit era.
SNES and Sega Genesis. That's where almost all my favourite games are from.

That era has a lot of gems :) A Link to the Past, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, etc.

The PS1 generation I suppose, the japanese game industry was really on their highest back then and released so many excellent games. The SNES/Mega Drive generation was pretty great too.

Thinking about the current generation, here are all the games I really enjoyed and played thru multiple times. So we had a bunch of nice games, but this list never had so few JRPGs as it does now. It's been a very weak JRPG generation unfortunately.

I have to agree. I had an N64 and that was really great system. My least favourite? This last console generation. PC gaming seems to exist outside of the generational concept so I'm not going to count it in.

Dunno if it equates to a specific generation as such, but for me probably about a five year period from 2003/2004 onwards was my personal favourite. My interest in gaming really seemed to come alive again during that time, there was an awful lot of stuff that really fired my imagination. I've felt a bit "meh" since then, but I think that says at least as much about me as anything else.
