Too hard. I've seen so many good movies that if I tried to make a list it would be too long, and then I'd have to keep coming back to add things when I remembered them. :P

Man, you don't know what you're missing. Their films are classics. Just need to remember that their films aren't serious. Also, expect to see some cast members you wouldn't expect
I like some Troma stuff. Some is a bit tedious for me when it starts meandering away from clever and toward obvious humor and audience pandering. I'm really glad people like them exist, though. For some reason I really got a kick out of http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083934/, although I haven't seen it in over a decade.

The only movies I can think of that has ever left me literally awe-struck as the credits rolled are The Devil's Rejects and Jacob's Ladder. I should be able to come up with more later.
Jacob's Ladder was a solid film. I didn't really like The Devil's Rejects, though. I liked House of 1000 Corpses a lot more.

I was just impressed by how well it did in making me sympathize with the sociopaths. It almost felt like a Western, where as House of 1000 Corpses is more straight horror. Their both great films, of course.

Also, OP, your parents might not let you watch Titanic because of the nudity.

A few more I just thought of are that are my favorites
The Lord of the Rings
The Dark Knight
Harry Potter
Dreamer

It ought to. One of the best movies ever made, and certainly in my top 5. That 1960-1970 era was so brilliant in so many ways.

I'm so mad at forgetting Deer Hunter on my list I could just shoot myself!
It certainly has the best soundtrack ever
Fun fact; Kubrick occasionally wanted Pink Floyd to do the soundtrack. They said no and now they consider it one of their biggest mistakes.

Hard to say the best movie I've ever seen. For comedy, either Top Secret or Hitch is the best.

Bourne Identity and The Visitor are both amazing dramas.

2001: A Space Odyssey had a good plot and super interesting ideas, but it seems like it's praised simply because of its ambiguity. I mean, were the themes that profound?

Cool. As much as I love Pink Floyd I'd say it was for the best though

I have a total mancrush on Ligeti at the moment. So jealous of his skillz -_-

City of Lost Children
Dogs of War
Blade Runner
Alien
Brazil
A Bridge too Far
The Usual Suspects
Any of Abbot and Costello films

Oh heavens, this sort of question is always so hard to answer. What I considered a "best movie" 15 years ago is often very different than what I'd say today. There's also a difference to me between 'best' in terms of quality production/art and "best" in terms of popcorn/action/feel good or other subcategory.

But movies that, for me, have stood the test of time and many repeated watchings:

The Shawshank Redemption
Terminator & Terminator2
Princess Bride
Das Boat
Star Trek:OS films 2,4,6
Seabiscuit
Lord of the Rings trilogy (1st & 3rd mostly)
Star Wars (original trilogy, unaltered)
While You Were Sleeping (hey, I like it/makes me smile)
Seven
American Beauty
Evil Dead2
Rob Roy
Almost every single Clint Eastwood movie (both as actor & as director). Those stupid orangutan movies excepted.
Die Hard
Speed
The Professional

....and many others.

It certainly has the best soundtrack ever

I don't understand it's brilliance personally and have only gotten through half of it though :(

Maybe one day.........
I like it simply because I'm fascinated with space, and I've read the books.

I find 2001 to be all visual & cerebral style and not much more. I understand the influence it had on the movie industry, but I also consider it to have little entertainment value. So I highly respect it in some ways but find it incredibly boring to watch...altho HAL is a great character. And I still prefer it over something like The English Patient. :P

The novel was a fair bit better/didn't put me to sleep as quickly. imo.
