Light Dragon Armor is the best light armor I believe. It's pretty sweet looking. Robes, besides ones you can enchant yourself the Arch Mages Robes are pretty good, dont look to bad either. I wish there was more options to Armor (like colors, and possibly diff variations to change up the looks I get)

Greybeard Robes ftw. :) I think they're unique enough but still look functional. The psijic ones are cool but look a little out of place for the setting...like they're too dainty/nice to be used in Skyrim. I can imagine a mage wearing those, then going dungeon diving, and traveling back to town through a raging snowstorm, and being like "%&#$ my fancy expensive robes are bloody, dirty, torn and faded!" lol

For light armor my favorite is the Forsworn armor. Yeah it's not the best protection quality but I love the wild, barbaric look to it.

Heavy armor for me is either Steel armor, for the sheer polished "Paladin" look, or Falmer armor (minus the helmet). It looks surprisingly stylish and sixy on a non-Falmer character...lol

Daedric is the best heavy armor, but I think the armor cap is 567 so while my Daedric is rated at over 1100 as I understand it, it's actually capped at 567. If that's true then go for looks.

Dragonscale is probably the best looking (and best rated) light armor, but the Glass is beautiful if you can get past the Elvish look.

Steel is the most Nordic looking (horned helm is really f-ing cool) Heavy armor and the Ebony is beautiful although the helmet is kinda' crotch-rocket helmet looking.

Edited to correct armor cap - I thought it was 867, but was probably confusing 567 and 80%.

Daedric is the best heavy armor, but I think the armor cap is 800-something so while my Daedric is rated at over 1100 as I understand it, it's actually capped at just under 900. If that's true then go for looks.

Armor caps is more like 500-something.

As for best gear: Light and heavy armor is whatever you like the most and exploit your way to armor cap/god enchant and robes is whatever you like and god enchant.

On a woman I really like the look of Orcish. Orcish helm plus ebony is pretty chic.

I was all excited about the Forsworn helmet until I found out it turns into a hairstyle on a female. I want the male version.

Orc is an excellent heavy armor, because you can hit the armor cap with pretty minimal investment and it looks quite good when combined with other bits you find as treasure (I still use the "ancient helmet of unburned" because of its looks and because its something you can't enchant yourself, but before I did my own enchants Orc looked good with various steel armor bits that had enchantments I liked).
I don't see any need to go above that, unless you really like the looks of "better" armors, or don't want to spend any perks on heavy armor skill / don't have the skill needed to do so.

Light armors and robes I gauge only by the gold per lb I get when selling them. Astrid's Dark Brotherhood armor looks quite good on a "sixchange"d dummy in my basemant.
