5 best pc rpg games

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 2:07 am

Dragon Age: Origins - 4 people
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - 5 people
Mass Effect - 3 people
Mass Effect 2 - 1 person
Borderlands - 1 person

I did not see Rage. Not usre if most call it an RPG. So I can't vote it. No order but out of that list theres my 5.

I'm feeling some pride in the fact that I'm three of those people.

1. Daggerfall
2. Morrowind
3. Arx Fatalis
4. Gothic II NOTR
5. Gothic

In that order.

The greatest weakness of the last three is the character presets. Apparently both the French and Germans have disdain against the heroine. Skyrim could easily bump Gothic off the list, but I'm not quite finished just yet. ;)

Morrowind
KOTOR
Mass Effect
KOTOR 2
Daggerfall

I see that this voting is not actually being restricted to RPGs but includes Action/Adventure games with RPG elements as well.

EDIT: I'd also vote for The Old Republic, but it hasn't been released yet.

Action/Adventure games with RPG elements as well.

Isn't that in essence an RPG anyway, though? I just ask as I think it's possible to be too exacting over the definition.

Skyrim
EVE online
Fallout 3
Morrowind
Oblivion
That list is in no specific order. Just the first 5 that popped into my head.

Genres aren't absolute, but elements are.
We count up the elements and call the game whichever one has the lead.
RPG elements are any elements where the character's skills, abilities, knowledge, and/or power determines the outcome of the player's choices. A game that would meet the definition of a pure, 100% RPG would be very boring and sell very poorly which is why we do not ever see anyone making them. The trick is to get a good mix of RPG elements and Action/Adventure elements so that the game is entertaining.

Many games that are called an "RPG" by the publisher have no actual RPG elements in them at all but merely rely on mechanics that are commonly associated with RPGs (such as XP, levels, dialogue options, quests, etc.)

Well, I would certainly hope you wouldn't call a game you haven't played one of the 'best'...

Not sure on the 5th... lots of options.

In regards to the OP list though, Mass Effect 2 isn't an RPG.

...Mass Effect 2 is an RPG. You are playing the role of Commander Shepard and have a choice of different classes that will affect your combat style and you are given a hell of a lot of choice in the story and in what happens with each of your companions. As I said at the beginning of this comment: Mass Effect 2 is an RPG.

1. Morrowind
2. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (I like it better on Xbox though )
3. Mass Effect 2
4. Mass Effect
5. Dragon Age: Origins

Skyrim has yet to prove itself to me. Yes it's a good game, and yes I love it. However it takes time to make it on my top 5 list.
