Best way to change lighting in a cell

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 12:41 pm

What is the easiest way to get the lighting you want in a interior cell. Keep switching templates until you find one you like, make a new template, or not bother with templates but just set the values you want?
Also what settings should I play with to decrease the fog in my cell. It looks like the chimney is blocked and its full of brownish smoke.

Placed Objects can create smoke, make sure you don't have any of them.

Next, the 'fog' settings control in-game fog. On the same screen you set your lighting to (which I ALWAYS create my own lighting and never use a template.)

The heavy smoke you are seeing might not strictly be actual cell fog, it could be related to any imagespace modifiers applied to the cell.

I always create my own templates. For my money, the lighting template tool is the best way to see your light and evaluate the changes as you make them. You still have to test in game, but the light settings on the cell menu are not as easy to work with as the template. Just find a template that is close to what you want and copy it. It also helps to set the image space that goes with the template you want to start with.

You don't have to copy the lighting template to use it. Simply apply a lighting template to your cell, then remove it. All the values from the template are still there. Now you can adjust as you see fit.
And make sure you generate the ambient lighting from the main lighting for a good look in your cell.

I haven't any Placed Objects (I think since I don't know what they are) or Image Space Modifiers (same reason).
