Best "worst" game you played

Post » Tue Oct 30, 2012 1:51 pm

Best bad, iffy or strangely compelling game you played!

Based on a mix of solid to ify mechanics, bugs and story issues.

My top 3 are Shadows of the Damned, Infernal, Bionic Commando.

Shadows of the Damned

Cons
Ridiculous story/plot
Bugy
Melee could not hit demons that are not on the same level as you(if you are standing a bit higher on a bumb or something).
Melee missed sometimes.
Flare size upgrade dose nothing.

Pros
Ridiculous story/plot
LETHAL HEAD SHOTS!
Music.
It was kinda hard on hardest difficulty.

Levels could have been better and maybe do something more with his demon powers? But other wise I enjoyed it 0-o

-----------------
Infernal

Cons
Ridiculous story/plot
Bugy
Invisible walls

Pros
Ridiculous story/plot
LETHAL HEAD SHOTS!
AI is not that bad.
Demon shot adds a kind of alt fire for some weapons(that or some weapons had a alt fire I forget)

Needs a lot of polish but it was fun as hell.
---------------------
Bionic Commando.

Cons
Ridiculous story/plot
SWINGING!
Weapon management(didn't care for the Halo lite setup)
Didn't like the default gun much.
To many enemies have anti grapple suits for no apparent reason.
To many radiation zones

Pros
SWINGING!
Bionic arm combat
A few lines in the game.
Achievement based skill upgrade setup was not that bad.

I wish it was a bit more like a carry all weapon FPS but in all it was pretty fun, the plot svcks .

------------------------------

Almost want to add STALKER to this just cause LOL.

The Way of the Samurai series. Most of the games are on the 50s on metacritic, the games are very unpolished and have a huge "low budget" feel to them. But I still find them extremely enjoyable, Way of the Samurai 3 is one of the better games of this console generation as far as I'm concerned, and I'm looking forward to play Way of the Samurai 4 (which actually was released in Europe a couple of weeks ago but I've been busy with stuff and other games like Dishonored and Bionic Commando).

I find it a bit funny you mention Bionic Commando, since I played thru the game for the first time last weekend. Huge fan of the NES game from 1988, but didn't try the new game or Rearmed until. well, the past few days. I didn't like Rearmed though, I thought the soundtrack was awful, totally ruined those old NES melodies with that annoying loud base and drums. Probably the worst game soundtrack of this console generation.

I kinda love on cheasey/strange/odd games like Bionic Comando,SOTD,LoliPop Chainsaw, ect.

I remember Bionic Commando to this day for mainly one reason.
Spoiler
Soylent bionics.
I recall that and then recall how fun it was. LOL

IMO the dukester doesn't belong in this catagory but others may differ. Duke Nukem Forever---I love this game.

It's an old PC game and the onthing about this game that's bad is the bug in the game. Wizards & Warriors from D.W.Bradly. It has the elements of an epic game but those bugs really kill this game and the patches you can download to it will only allow it to play for a short time.

Golden Axe Beast Rider wasn't bad but everytime the game introduces a BIG character---they become the norm from there on out plus the difficulty of the game can be brutal.

I wish DNF had the old level layout design.

Speaking of bland Turok EVO was pretty bad but the flying was kinda neat. The Turok remake was pretty iffy too but has some of the best QTE I have seen implemented..

First game that comes to my mind is Fable and because it lacks content... The gameplay and some aspects are highly nice, and all... But in-all, the game lacks content. Like, quests for example... How many side quests do you get? Not many, last I played that game. Also, the world.. I highly dislike the whole 'world map' in Fable. Was never a fan.

The Call of Juarez series, especially the first one. There was so much wrong with it but I loved both of the campaigns, haven't played the latest one though.

Turok EVO was a decent game my only beef with it was you could only use the Nuke Weapon once and only in ONE AREA----other then that it was okay. The Turok remake is iffy IMO it had good graphics and all but the placeing of checkpoints made this game a little to tough.

Yeah, I'd never heard of it before and I've now seen it mentioned in two totally different contexts today!

I was about to say "I dunno" since anything I like is subconsciously promoted to "good", but I'll steal Jeffredo's suggestion of Two World: it's supposed to be pants but actually I thoroughly enjoyed it. And I'd go as far as saying that other than the genuinely awful "so bad it's good" voice acting and iffy cut-scenes, it's actually a lot better than some supposedly superior games.

I liked Fable but it was tiny combat could have been better. I liked the World setup didnt like how it saved and would have liked a fast travel options.

Fable 2 was all about buying stuff and jobs and Fable 3 is WTF.

Loved the first one the next 2 are so so even for a iffy game.

Odd I thought all the check points made it to easy 0-o

There is 3 new ones.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bionic_Commando_Rearmed
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bionic_Commando_Rearmed_2

Rearmed is the side scrolling one.

The 2009 title is rather well made its not the best of games but I was rather surprised with it.

In late game the checkpoints are spaced out to much such as----there's this part where you's attacking a base and there's a T-Rex outside, you must cross this one area or rather a gauntlet and you must get across it and there's no checkpoint until you enter the base. So if you get killed at anytime you start at the beginning of the level.

Er how the levels connected to each other or the fiction the world is built around?

I think about mechanics and layouts before much else.

Ah. The only thing I had trouble with was the end boss QTE I kinda wish they could implement a QTE thats not like a QTE like the QTE with the knife on the raptors. (oh gawd I stopped making sense .....again LOL)

Tenchu Z.

Pros: you're a ninja, and that's about it, but enjoyed it despite everything else.

Nosferatu: the Wrath of Malachi

It's cheesy yet surprisingly effective in making me jump, as much as Doom 3 anyway. The art style is good and the sounds appropriately creepy. It'll also run well on almost any computer.

Same for me. The first got terrible reviews for obvious reasons, but the second did not deserve the criticism. If they would have called it something else it would have had better ratings, people just hated it because the first was so bad. I around 100 hours into both games combined.

This, there was pretty much nothing but just "your a ninja kill your target" but I had so much fun doing it. The online play was also fun to go through the maps and kill the entirety of the map with 4 ninjas in 20 seconds and you could customize your ninja.

There was a game for the original Playstation called Fighting Force. I borrowed it from a friend once. It was a kind of 3D (yeah, that was still a big deal then) Streets of Rage-type beat-em-up. It wasn't very good, to be honest, but my brother and I had literally an hour's fun playing co-op on it.

Going back even further leads me to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. The game itself wasn't bad (for a text adventure), but a bug in the code meant that it was literally impossible to finish. They never patched it, either. Luckily, I am a resourceful chap and learned to PEEK and POKE.

Oh man, the first Two Worlds game was terrible in so many ways but I played the crap out of it.
It had more glitches than I cared to mention, crude graphics and the way NPCs talked about the "Taint" in unintentionally hilarious ways had me laughing at my own immaturity.

But I could have my character wear wicked looking steel armor & horned helmet, 2 axes strapped to his back as he rode a skeletal horse down hilly forests paths... birds would be chirping, bunny rabbits hopping around, & there'd be a low morning mist over the ground so I set my complaints aside and believed :)

Two Worlds is the cat's pajamas.

I honestly haven't seen a better alchemy system in an open world rpg.

Or a worse magic system...mayhap?

Edit:

And by the way... the menu song is the best song ever for a video game.

So epic.
