1.8 Beta Update; Solstheim DLC - Thread #19

Post » Sun Oct 21, 2012 8:05 am

SPECULATION WARNING! Not confirmed yet.

The next DLC will be called Dragonborn and it will be set on the island of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Solstheim.
The main locations you will be able to visit are http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Raven_Rock, Miraak Temple, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Castle_Karstaag and a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Telvanni_Tower (N.B.: Not the Telvanni Tower, but a Telvanni tower).
There will be some new armor types, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Bonemold, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Chitin, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Nordic and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Raw_Stalhrim each having heavy and lightclassifications.
Out of these new materials, you will be able to craft new types items out of two of them, namely Stalhrim andNordic.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Spears will be added along with an array of new creatures/automotons, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Riekling#Riekling, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Scrib#Scrib, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Netch#Netch, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Boar#Boar, Benthic Lurker, Ballista Centurion, and something with an internal name of HMDaedra, quite possibly referring tohttp://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Hermaeus_Mora since it lists his plane of oblivion, Apocrypha. You will also be able to ride dragons and be in combat while mounted on one.

http://i.imgur.com/gF1hJ.png is what the quest header for Dragonborn Quests will look like, and http://i.imgur.com/AJu91.png is what the compass markers look like for the new locations.
From the top, clockwise: Telvanni Tower, To Solstheim, Raven Rock, Castle Karstaag, Standing Stones, To Skyrim, Miraak Temple.

There will be at least two new tracked stats: Dragonborn Quests Completed, and Stalhrim Items Crafted

You will travel to Solstheim via a boat, much like you did in Bloodmoon, although this time, it looks like you may at least get a partial visual boat ride.
The Telvanni tower has float up and down animations, so no levitation it seems.
Dragon riding will take place in its own world space

Mounted combat looks like it's getting an improvement with the ability to cast spells while mounted, tihs isn't necessarily a Dragonborn only thing though!

It appears that Update 1.8 readies Skyrim for PS3 DLC.

---

Misinformation:
Weapon degrading -- There's nothing to indicate this is added, that isn't to say it can't/won't be added however. There was just no "new" information in this update. The degradation stuff seen previously has all been renemants from previous CK games (Fallout)

Other stuff that I can't put my finger on or give intelligent guesses about because of lack of information
Miraak death animation, Chieftain animations, Chisel animations (perhaps new crafting station for the new armor.. doubt it though), Storn Death Reaction animation & Storn Suit Stages, H2H and H2H_AttackBash, H2H_Equip, H2H_Unequip - Not necessarily Hand to Hand, but it might be. Frea, Pray, StonePickUp, KillMoveDLC02RipHeartOut, TreeAmbush
There also seem to be a lot more animation files for running with weapons. No idea why.
warven Ballista -- Possibly a new trap? http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dwemer_Ballista#Dwemer_Ballista

I corrected it. but as I think I am the only mod around atm and didn't edit it originally - you sure you didn't copy/paste from the last thread which was also wrong?

I guess I screwed up somehow. It had a completely different title though, so I have no idea how I changed it so much, and got rid of my quote and first sentence. Oh well, the most important thing was that the name was spelled right, so thank you.

Here's hoping we Loyal PS3 fans can get Dawnguard before this comes out on other platforms.

Or even better, they're all available for you at the same time. That'd be exciting, eh?

First, is any of this even confirmed? Beyond the few references found in the CK with the beta patch, or is this a case of rumors being spun into an artificial reality?

The idea of returning to somewhere we've already been doesn't appeal to me that much. So it would have to have truly changed to be interesting.

Raven Rock would be gone, probably Fort Frostmoth. The effect that the devastation on Vvardenfell unleashed on Winterhold for instance, would have been felt far more keenly on Solstheim. I'd expect that everything in the lowlands of the south would have gone.

Dragon Mounts - no interest at all. Really don't know if the tired old engine (With new patented shiny bits) can handle it well. Plus it's likely to be restricted to a new worldspace anyway, or it'd cause problems with the nature of the cities. Assuming of course that it's not just a scripted sequence, that happens and we have no actual control.

Spears - interested. Very. IF they are done properly. ie: Have attacks that make sense, new animations etc.

So how much content do you wager we know? Do you think we know most of it or very little if it? How much did we know about Dawnguard via patch info.

Also, how many types of spears you think we'll get?

None of it is confirmed, however, last time this happened was with dawnguard, and everything short of the snow prince was spot on. Dragonmounts I believe were hinted to be in a seperate area somewhere in that code.

Geez, with all of the content that would be in a simultaneous dump, PS3 players would drop from the face of the earth for MONTHS. We're talking maybe 40 hours on both sides of DG, a good 10 hours of extension with HF, and presumably, looking at what MIGHT be in the new DLC, another 40-60 hours or more, and that's just for a single PC, not the multiple PCs that most invested players have and not counting any new ones that might be created specifically to use things that might be in there, like hand to hand.

I doubt we know most of it, probably a few main things, but its a whole new area. Thats a lot of content. Too much for just a few strands of code to show. Dawnguard, I wasn't here for the dawnguard leak.

Those weren't snow princes. The only snow prince they had was killed by a badass girl nord whose parents were put down by him.

DevenTarn and MadCat124... Bethesda's official position is that they do not comment on rumors/speculation/conjecture. That's a fair and honest and admirable position, IMO. What we do know is that we have several strings of "code" that reference some interesting *possibilities* in conjunction with a past track record of pre-DLC patch release (Dawnguard) in which the "code" bits mostly all proved to be true, if not exactly to conjecture, at least from a logical standpoint. So, will SOMEONE be riding a dragon in the new DLC? I'd say it's virtually guaranteed. But would the PC be using a dragon as a mount much like a horse? Definitely NOT a given. Same with spears, which may even just be a reference from borrowed code from prior games. Happens everywhere in the coding industry, pieces are soemtimes borrowed from prior works. H2H reference, same thing... it could equally as likely mean Head to Head and not Hand to Hand, in refence to a dragon-mount vs. dragon-mount (or any other significant) battle.

But let's face it, specualtion is fun, as long as we're not immature enough to let it ruin our perception of the actual release.

You're confusing named lore with code/variable/whatever naming. One could easily swap out Kodlak_DeathRant and WWBoss_LastSpeech and they'd mean the same thing depending on what the devs agreed upon in the code. ;)

True. Though perhaps the first post of the threads shouldn't be written as it is, as if every single detail has been confirmed to be the truth.

It should have stuck with the format where the discovered lines of code were mentioned and presented as opposed to saying 'This IS the DLC' and linking to pictures from Morrowind and saying this IS in and this IS in.

It's just going to cause confusion in the long run methinks.

He never said he made himself prince, and that makes no sense to me. They could have easily called it in the code snow elf one and snow elf 2. Why did you quote me 4 times?

Sorry tribal. The prince is called snow elf prince not snow prince.

Someone ruling over something doesnt=prince, and the code doesnt equal everything thats actually in the game. The code also has vats in it. Thats definitely not gonna be in the game. It could be left over files from Skyrim mentioning the prince. And like I said, the title is snow elf prince, not snow prince, and neither of them call themselves that. It could be code reminiscent from when they were gonna put a prince in, but maybe they decided not to do it.
