1.8 BetaSolstheim DLC discussion Thread - #22

Post » Tue Oct 23, 2012 1:59 pm

The next DLC will be called Dragonborn and it will be set on the island of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Solstheim.
The main locations you will be able to visit are http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Raven_Rock, Miraak Temple, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Castle_Karstaag and a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Telvanni_Tower (N.B.: Not the Telvanni Tower, but a Telvanni tower).
There will be some new armor types, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Bonemold, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Chitin, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Nordic and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Raw_Stalhrim each having heavy and light classifications.
Out of these new materials, you will be able to craft new types items out of two of them, namely Stalhrim and Nordic.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Spears will be added along with an array of new creatures/automotons, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Riekling#Riekling, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Scrib#Scrib, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Netch#Netch, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Boar#Boar, Benthic Lurker, Ballista Centurion, and something with an internal name of HMDaedra, quite possibly referring to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Hermaeus_Mora since it lists his plane of oblivion, Apocrypha. You will also be able to ride dragons and be in combat while mounted on one.

http://i.imgur.com/gF1hJ.png is what the quest header for Dragonborn Quests will look like, and http://i.imgur.com/AJu91.png is what the compass markers look like for the new locations.
From the top, clockwise: Telvanni Tower, To Solstheim, Raven Rock, Castle Karstaag, Standing Stones, To Skyrim, Miraak Temple.

There will be at least two new tracked stats: Dragonborn Quests Completed, and Stalhrim Items Crafted

You will travel to Solstheim via a boat, much like you did in Bloodmoon, although this time, it looks like you may at least get a partial visual boat ride.
The Telvanni tower has float up and down animations, so no levitation it seems.
Dragon riding will take place in its own world space

Mounted combat looks like it's getting an improvement with the ability to cast spells while mounted, tihs isn't necessarily a Dragonborn only thing though!

It appears that Update 1.8 readies Skyrim for PS3 DLC.

---

Misinformation:
Weapon degrading -- There's nothing to indicate this is added, that isn't to say it can't/won't be added however. There was just no "new" information in this update. The degradation stuff seen previously has all been renemants from previous CK games (Fallout)

Other stuff that I can't put my finger on or give intelligent guesses about because of lack of information
Miraak death animation, Chieftain animations, Chisel animations (perhaps new crafting station for the new armor.. doubt it though), Storn Death Reaction animation & Storn Suit Stages, H2H and H2H_AttackBash, H2H_Equip, H2H_Unequip - Not necessarily Hand to Hand, but it might be. Frea, Pray, StonePickUp, KillMoveDLC02RipHeartOut, TreeAmbush
There also seem to be a lot more animation files for running with weapons. No idea why.
warven Ballista -- Possibly a new trap? http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dwemer_Ballista#Dwemer_Ballista

Yay more threads! Hopefully people will stay on topic this time and not flame. I for one can't wait to find out how Apocrypha will tie into this whole thing.

Curses! #22 was mine! :verymad:

Wait so Dragonriding will take place in it's own worldspace? Does this mean that you won't be able to attack ground enemies/cities/villages?

I pretty surprised they haven't made this patch official yet, normally they spend a few days in beta... this patch has been in beta now for a week.

Going to quote Gheart here the uncool way...

"Actually, the Staff of Chaos is residing in the Imperial Palace."

My reply: True but the Thalmor did manage to attack the Imperial Palace... Who knows? Maybe they have the staff now? Maybe an Imperial Soldier took it away and hid it somewhere?

If dragons are anything like horses, I'll definitely only use them when absolutely necessary.

If there is dragon riding, i think it would be limited to its own worldspace. And I dont think you could ride a dragon straightaway. I think you learn more throughout the questline maybe.

Also on the game jam video on the dragon riding bit, does the dragon control itself or did the player control it? it looked like the dragon was flying around itself.

Dragonscale or Dragonplate armor for dragons? I think that'd make them a little uncomfortable.

I was mostly referring to really terrible stamina, an overall lack of speed, and rather clunky controls in my opinion.

Wait wait wait, So Stalhrim is listed as its own armor set, but in Bloodmoon its used to make Ice armor, so does that mean we're getting Ice armor or something completely different? ALSO! There are tons of Nordic armor so I wonder if the Nordic set refers to just one or multiple sets? I hope multiple, but it sounds like its just one. Also since this is the same island as the one in Bloodmoon, WE NEED WEREBEAR!! (imo haha)

I'm going to throw out there and say I'm virtually 100% positive there will NOT be a PS3 only DLC. It's just not economically sensible. Timed exclusive? Dunno. Maybe. BUT, you have to consider what a thumb of the nose that would be to the dominant console on the market right now, and probably for the foreseeable future. Dunno if any company that's NOT a PS3 primary developer would ever want to do THAT. My guess, the code enables the PS3 DLC menu option. That's it. Now, there a REASON you'd enable that option. What that reason might be is anyone's guess. Probably PS3 will at least get Hearthfire, possibly Dawnguard and/or Dragonborn.

I wouldn't bet on it... very unlikely. It's more likely that this code found just means that the PS3 will get DLC at some point. This is still all speculation though at this time.

The controls were MUCH better before mounted combat. Now, turning if "iffy" at best, so much so that traversing a blade-shaped mountain poor-control tumble took Shadowmere's. Shadow. Mere's. Life on one of my plays. I went with it, RP style, but there's really no excuse for the horrible control we have now. I don't ride horses at all any more because of it.

I have a question for you fine folks.

Since spears in Morrowind were only two-handed and the one in the gamejam was also two-handed. Do you guys think I should make a character that focuses on two-handed for this DLC? Or do you think I should wait until more information?

It's probably a safe bet to say that they'll be two-handed (also don't forget nothing is confirmed yet as well), but I'd wait as they might add perks and such. Plus, wouldn't you want to use them with your character from the very beginning?

Correct answer is correct.
Dunno about you console users, but horses are solid proof Skyrim is a console port. :P Controls are so clunky....
