1.8 BetaSolstheim DLC discussion Thread - #26

The next DLC will be called Dragonborn and it will be set on the island of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Solstheim.
The main locations you will be able to visit are http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Raven_Rock, Miraak Temple, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Castle_Karstaag and a Telvanni tower (N.B.: Not the Telvanni Tower seen in Morrowind in Vivec, but http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Tel_Uvirith).
There will be some new armor types, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Bonemold, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Chitin, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Nordic and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Raw_Stalhrim each having heavy and light classifications.
Out of these new materials, you will be able to craft new types items out of two of them, namely Stalhrim and Nordic.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Spears will be added along with an array of new creatures/automotons, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Riekling#Riekling, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Scrib#Scrib, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Netch#Netch, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Boar#Boar, Benthic Lurker, Ballista Centurion, and something with an internal name of HMDaedra, quite possibly referring to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Hermaeus_Mora since it lists his plane of oblivion, Apocrypha. You will also be able to ride dragons and be in combat while mounted on one.

From the top, clockwise: Telvanni Tower, To Solstheim, Raven Rock, Castle Karstaag, Standing Stones, To Skyrim, Miraak Temple.

There will be at least two new tracked stats: Dragonborn Quests Completed, and Stalhrim Items Crafted

You will travel to Solstheim via a boat, much like you did in Bloodmoon, although this time, it looks like you may at least get a partial visual boat ride.
The Telvanni tower has float up and down animations, so no levitation it seems.
Dragon riding will take place in its own world space

Mounted combat looks like it's getting an improvement with the ability to cast spells while mounted, tihs isn't necessarily a Dragonborn only thing though!

It appears that Update 1.8 readies Skyrim for PS3 DLC.

Misinformation:
Weapon degrading -- There's nothing to indicate this is added, that isn't to say it can't/won't be added however. There was just no "new" information in this update. The degradation stuff seen previously has all been renemants from previous CK games (Fallout)
H2H stuff, That was my diff program messing up, sorry :smile:
Release dates -- No one but Bethesda knows!

Other stuff that I can't put my finger on or give intelligent guesses about because of lack of information
Miraak death animation, Chieftain animations, Chisel animations (perhaps new crafting station for the new armor.. doubt it though), Storn Death Reaction animation & Storn Suit Stages, Frea, Pray, StonePickUp, KillMoveDLC02RipHeartOut, TreeAmbush
There also seem to be a lot more animation files for running with weapons. No idea why.

All of the above is speculation over new strings found in the files from the 1.8 update, and should not be treated as facts or as any proof that any of it will even make it into the game! (but you all already knew that, didn't you!... Didn't you?) They were found by comparing 1.7.7.0 files with those in 1.8.145.0. The update to the Beta (i.e. 1.8.151.0) gave no new information.

N, the hope for werebears will probably never die. I'm hoping they could just add some kind of shrine to Hircine somewhere on Solstheim you could pray at to become a were bear, instead of actually having a long questline for it (maybe a side quest or miscellaneous objective, but that's it).
I just don't understand why people want Werebears. Stupid idea if you ask me.
Why have werebears anyway if you could have weresharks? :banana:

Why are they stupid? We have werewolves, and VL's. Those are great. Werebears are in lore, somewhat in norse mythology, and they would not play the same as werewolves.

Meh, if they wanna finally do Werebears, I would think then it would be for a DLC that involves Hircine. Evidence is kinding leaning towards Hermy, but last I checked he wasn't the type that deals in Lycanthropes.


Or if they wanna get snarky about it, put a shrine to Hircine in some out of the way place, and when you click on it, you hear Todd Howards voice go "Alright, you are now a Werebear. Now please SHUT UP about it!"

...I'd lul for dayz.

The explanation is simple. The Devs didn't do them.
Just because they are not present in the game proper, does not mean there is some sort of Lore explanation.

Why are they stupid? We have werewolves, and VL's. Those are great. Werebears are in lore, somewhat in norse mythology, and they would not play the same as werewolves.
We already have Werewolves and Vampire Lord's, we don't need any more transformations.

The explanation is simple. The Devs didn't do them.

If Bethesda was to just ignore them, I would at least like to see a book or journal of maybe a Hircine follower noting some plague that wiped out the bears. That's what I meant. I don't want them to just be dismissed as if they don't care.

In all seriousness...I'm not against Werebears, I think it might be cool, and fun for those Barbarian types.
They can work in their own way, like a questline where you find a Hircine Coven who practice the art of...Ursine-Lycanthropy? Is that a proper term?

The in game book says that were bears don't come out except in the dead of winter or something like that. Check out the lycanthrope book. Skyrim apparently takes place in the summer

I think part of the reason people want were bears is because werewolves were so disappointing in this game. Another part is their absence butchers lore.

What I don't understand is why people are so against them. You don't have to deal with being one if you don't want to. Why are people so bent on impairing another's enjoyment of a single player game?

If the concern is that you think the developers will favor werebears over new content, that's understandable.

Speaking of new content and such, I can't wait to see what they improve on. Hopefully new crafting recipes. I remember somewhat at Beth saying that they wanted to expand upon what was already there and improve the game, as well as add new content.

This exactly.
I just don't see any appeal in them. If they are in, okay, I am happy for the fans of the idea, but personally I would heavily prefer something else being included, something entirely fresh.

So, I HAVE seen other people discuss this a bit (or maybe alot, I'm not sure), but I obviously read alot about the things that seems to be included in "Dragonborn", and doing so I read that the Umbra Sword had ended up in solstheim somehow? now, I have NOT read that floating city-book, but some of my friends who did, told me that the sword was destroyed, for good... but. isnt Umbra something like the aedric and daedric artifacts? can it be permanently destroyed, and has anything like that happened to any item of its equal before? Im asking because I obviously enjoyed the lore about the sword in Oblivion, and it's one of the few quests I played on in Morrowind as well (used to play it sometimes at my friends house back in 04).. Umbra rules (:
