Bethesda, can we PLEASE turn off Kill-cams?

Post » Fri Dec 21, 2012 11:21 am

I like killcams but they happen way too often when im fighting wolfes... literally the last wolfe in every pack I will see a kill cam. Not only does this break the level of immersion, but it also lets me know there are no more wolfes or enemies about, which I would rather remain ambiguous to keep me on my toes!

Would love to disable killcams in an update.

I take it you play with the music off (to keep combat music from notifying you) and UI opacity all the way down (so that you won't see the enemy indicators). Because if you don't, complaining about killcams doesn't make much sense.

Anyways, if you're on PC, I think I've seen a couple of mods that disable them. If you're on console, I'm not sure if Bethesda would ever implement a switch, as most people seem to love killcams.

On PC you don't even need to download a mod, you can turn it off yourself with a console command

I'll use the fast travel rebuttal on you:

Don't like it, don't use it!

Don't want kill cams? Stop killing people.

Out of curiosity, does it work on ranged killcams too?

There is a mod turn off ranged and magic kill cams. Melee has problems, because that messes with the sneak attack stuff. Those don't bother me, though. I'm only annoyed by the ranged/magic ones.

I am one that is a fan of kill cams, However, I do support an option to disable them. The ranged KCs are my favorite.

...when they work properly.

yeah, it is always a buzz kill when I get a bow kill cam and my arrow hits a rock, and then the enemy is on top of me. I still keep the kill cam on though because it is awesome when it works.

Yeah, but i thought i read somewhere that you have to enter the command every time you boot up the game. Is that true?

Really? What command is that?

And if so, Bethesda really has no excuse for not making it an option.

Why would you ever want to do that? Killcams are like the mostest amazingest thing ever.

Actually, the problem is that there are way too many wolf packs each time someone decides to take a walk to watch at the scenery. I like the finishing moves, but of course, lots of enemies > lots of finishings.

I find it baffling when you say kill-cams break immersion. To me, they enhance it.

And I've NEVER seen any indication that a kill-cam activates when they're the only enemy. I've had three kill-cams in a row fighting a pack of 3 wolves before.

I've had that happen too, but that is because only one of them actually took notice of me at a time. The game will allow a kill cam if you are killing the last currently hostile enemy. Often not all the wolves in a pack come at you at once. If there is only 1 red dot left on your radar a kill cam can happen I believe is the rule.

I like the melee kill-cams, but the ones for magic and archery are just annoying. The archery cams don't work right half the time, and kill-cams for any destruction spell below master are pointless.

I for one always get a good laugh when I get a kill cam on a deer with a firebolt and watch it go tumbling end over end.

Obsidian managed to do this for new Vegas, so there's no excuse for Bethesda not doing it too.

Disabling kill cams was one of the first things that I sought out to fix in Skyrim...that and fixing the horrid third person camera.

Exactly the kind of 12 year old derp these killcams are aimed at.

Kill cams only happen when you kill the last active enemy, no exceptions (unless you have some mod). It really shouldn't get in your way at all, if youre in combat with wolves, there's no way for the killcam to interfere as it will only activate on the last wolf. There's no reason to keep on your toes during a killcam if there are no enemies left. I don't know why people don't like them, they make it a lot more realistic, I'm not all that in to hack n slash, so seeing a decapitation or fancy maneuver at the end of every combat session is very refreshing.

Charming. And stereotypes are always a good way to improve conversations.

(for the record, I love the kill cams.... at least the third person ones, since they let me see my char being a badass. I need to go digging for a mod that'll turn off the 1st person ones. A built-in toggle wouldn't svck. And also for the record, I'm in my mid-40's, and have been playing console & computer RPGs for thirty years. Still love those killcams.)

Are you also a 12 year old derp? Because the first words you used in the OP are that you like killcams.

I'd prefer a toggle - let us choose between no killcams, first-person only, third-person only and all.

I like them just fine, but then again I am for giving options to players so it would be cool to have that in a future upgrade
