Bethesda's creative Province designs for the future destroye

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 11:38 pm

Here is the proposition. If they make EVERY province, we're going to get a half-assed version of every province. The ones that haven't been made will be made up by them. When it comes to BGS making the province properly, all the billions of fans of the MMO will whine if it doesn't match their experience in the MMO (eg. "Rimmen doesn't look like that, this svcks") and Bethesda will have to cater to them by sacrificing their creativity in design and making it highly similar to the MMO version of the province. Discuss the validity of this proposition.

Screw the purely MMO fans and focus on the ones who have actually played the Sp games. problem solved. TES VI will be the best yet.

It may need similar land mass, but it's set 1000 years before Skyrim... so buildings as such can be very different.

BGS can change the design if they want. The provinces may be amazing anyway in the MMO and won't need to be changed.

The game will be set a century before Skyrim to avoid that problem.

It's a millennium, not a century.

Since they have to design (hopefully) at least a few different environment types and 8 different cities for every province (73 total including IC), I have doubts they will be "amazing".

The best thing that can happen is just flat out say "Anything in the MMO is not canon".

Your conclusions make sense, but honestly it just wont happen that way. Number one, previous games have never stopped Bethesda from improving the lore and visuals of their next game. All we have to do is look at the previous TES games to know this is true. The second point is MMOs probably wont care if the games look better than the MMO... they'll probably be excited if anything, though yea gamers(and really nerds) are just an unpredictable group of people, but fortunately developers have a long history of ignore the most obvious [censored].

That's probably what's gonna happen, so there's not much need for concern.

They're unlikely to be "amazing" and I don't mean by Quality, they're trying to do away with the HUB CITIES formula where everyone and their grandmother congregates to. anyway I'm more hopeful of TESVI.

What exactly does this mean? They just don't have cities? Otherwise, how exactly are they convincing people not to congregate to them?

I still don't get what is meant by this. You specified a few cities but it doesn't tell me what it means.

MMO's like wow, have Hubs where everyone clumps up to get their fix whether it be Shops, Missions, Quests, and rewards for completing said quests. while you'll still be able to get missions from the cities you DON'T HAVE TO in many instances and well at times get your reward upon completion rather than trying to find the Quest Giver.

so

You can get the following without (in most cases) running to town

Quests

Rewards

Missions

Reputation points.

Instead of everything being in one city that everyone goes to, TESO will have more variety and the cities more diverse.

So they're just trying to make there be no significant difference between cities and the wilderness?

Apart from not being highly popular s the other TES games were, Arena was just copy-pasted random one-of-a-few style cities/towns and flat one-of-a-few styles generated landscape. Also they had developed barely any lore. This game is unfortunately going to be immensely popular.

I don't think that will happen. I'm pretty sure Bethesda already have all the provinces fleshed out to some extent, that we never seen, and they only used a small part of that for the Pocket Guide of the Empire.

And Zenimax Online Studios no doubt taken part of that material, so they are under a huge influence of Bethesda. Which shouldn't come as a surprise, as it is Bethesda's baby after all.

And also, if people later complain that the single player game looks different than the MMO, it's because the single player game takes place over a thousand years later. I know for sure that this town I'm currently live in wasn't the same 1000 years ago as it is now.
