so some poeple have crappy controlers that automatically move just becuase they are old, so when your left stick is barley sticking to a side and you open the menu it locks up and you cannot select any thing in the menu interface. you all can try this for your self

ISSUE DISCOVERED : D

What? Can you like not open a menu if you're moving the left stick? Seriously? Good thing I literally got a new controller just yesterday. Jeez.

whoa.. This was driving me crazy. Sometimes opening up the menus, it would completely freeze up. sometimes for +10 seconds. Was using my lucky wired controller from 08 which has a history for left stick ghost roaming.

Thanks a ton OP. I just switched controllers and now the menus no longer freeze. You're a life saver! I know a LOT of people use controllers that left stick ghost roam, Hopefully this information gets to them because they are going to need it. The freezing was a game ender, and you just solved a major issue. Now if only you could fix the small text/aspect ratio cut off & 3rd person avatar blooming to take over 80 percent of the screen..

If only..

Great Odin's raven!
This is actually true. You are a Miracle Man!! This has been a game killer since I've been playing. Keep thread going so Bethesda knows to patch this.....or everyone buy new controllers lol.

Yeah this seems to be the cause. My left controller stick always moves up, very slightly. I hate playing games with real sensitive controls because of this. And it looks like this is whats causing the menu to not work. They just need to make it less sensitive.

If this is actually the whole issue, I'll be flabbergasted. To think that such a huge issue comes from something this trivial is unsettling, to say the least.

At first I thought this was the solution but I'm still getting some freezing even when I ensure stabilization of the thumbstick. Can people keep troubleshooting this supposed solution. Lets be sure because I'm still having issues. I'll be back after some more testing....

I've tested this with both my controllers that do this and can confirm that it is true

Oh wow!

And not everyone (me) can afford to buy a new controller.
Especially when they just spent a lot of money buying a game at release price. :(

Its still manageable. Before you enter the menus, make sure your left stick is centered and not stuck to left or right. IF you get to the menus and you notice its frozen, dont try and force it. Just recenter the joystick first, and then carry on.

when It gets stuck, its important that you realign the stick back to the NO movement center position, otherwise it will never unlock.

I find slightly jiggling the left stick unfreezes it for me.

We've seen that this can help in a case where you're using a "well-used" controller.
