Bethesda Says to decline update if you have not already down

Post » Tue Nov 02, 2010 5:18 am

Bethesda doesn't want you to download the latest update for New Vegas until it's put out a fix for it.

Hot on the heels of the news that Obsidian's patch for Fallout: New Vegas has made the game unplayable for just about everyone, Bethesda has officially stated that it's working on fixing things. Oh, and it's also telling users to decline accepting the update.

According to a post on the bethesda blog, the game's developers have found what's causing the problem and will be putting out a new patch soon:

"Regarding the Xbox 360 update, we've discovered a solution to the issue that's causing problems with game saves," it read. "We'll be hosting a replacement update on Xbox Live as soon as humanly possible.

"If you haven't grabbed the New Vegas update on 360 today, we recommend you decline the update until the new one is live. We'll be sure to let you know when it's up."

Fallout: New Vegas has earned a reputation for being enjoyable, but broken. The fact that an update designed to fix the game wreaked this much havoc is pretty ironic. To quote John Funk: "On some level I can't help but find it funny in its absurdity at this point. Even when Obsidian tries to fix the game, it breaks it."

I never come here as I don't own the game, but I stumbled across this and figure it would be helpful to some of the people here. To the mods: I'm sorry if this is redundant with the other thread asking if people are having problems. I figured it was different enough to deserve a new topic. However, you can delete / merge / lock as necessary (not like you needed my permission though :P).

Blaming people is just childish, I only care that someone fixes the bug, I don't care if Adolf Hitler comes from the grave to fix it, SOMEBODY fix it, and we're good.

because the patch causes some people to be unable to load a save to play from which you know most people would consider an issue it isn't affecting everyone but enough people that their concerned about it

Adolf is too busy patching Dino D-Day right now (it's a real game, look it up.) but I heard Stalin and Ronald Regan are available.

But yeah this business svcks, but throwing a ring-tailed fit and demand blood/refund or what have you is not the way to go about it. The newest patch screwed up all my saves, and there is annoying audio problem in my new game but I'm hoping the patch deals with these issues. I'm no game developer but I imagine patching problems isn't as easy as just flipping a few switches and going "done!"

You should have mentioned in the title that this is an issue with the Xbox 360.

I would have but I wasn't sure if it actually did only affect the Xbox 360 as The Escapist didn't mention it in their title.

Unless I missed it why did Bethesda not put that warning on this?

I saw that they said there was a problem, and they were fixing it, but if they didn t want people to download it they should have posted in all fo forms

PATCH IS F ED UP DO NOT DOWNLOAD WE ARE ON IT.

This is one of my few problems with Bethesda s ways. Keeping things ultra secretive while making a game is fine, but when [censored] is f ed up they need to work on pr a lot more. Some random poster tells us what Bethesda wants us to do lol

My patch was good, but still Bethesda needs to get info out when things go wrong at a much more rapid rate.

edit They have the warning barried in the nv general fourm. Why would they not put in here too???? If ran the world it would all go a lot smoother.
