Bethesda to take on Star Wars, please?

Post » Sun Nov 03, 2013 6:08 pm

So me & my friends sat down a couple nights ago and realized that there isn't one single open-world RPG Star Wars Jedi game out there for our current consoles. So our hope and wish is to see Bethesda make that happen for the upcoming consoles (PS4/Xbox One).

We though about it long and hard and it isn't really that farfetched, The Elder Scrolls & Fallout where simply AMAZING and it doesn't feel like Skyrim-meets-Star Wars is a bad thing at all.

Below are some notes and tips for a Bethesda Star Wars RPG game:

? skyrim already has force-like powers such as lightning, grip, persuade, heal, calm, push (unrelenting force shout) etc.
Assigning the force power to, for example, the L1 / Left Bumper allows for constant and fluid switches between saber blocking & force use

? the combat system doesn't need to be too advanced, something in the style of the official episode 3 game or Force Unleashed but using just the regular attack button (R2 / Right trigger)

? make the player's jumps higher and perhaps with a roll

? make the lightsaber hilt visibly dangle from the side of the belt when "sheathed"

? a massive variety of clothing options (jedi and other casual) as in Skyrim

? different lightsaber hilts to be found and created with different color-crystals found & bought throughout the world

? planetary travel not necessarily needed, make the world a "new" or undiscovered Star Wars planet which holds several regions within the map (snowy, forest, rocky, dessert etc) with major cities in each region. Like Skyrim or Oblivion and focus on having at least on huge city serving as the capital

? use slow-moving one-saddled speeders instead of horses (like darth maul's speeder on tattooine)

? automatic blaster deflection using lightsaber when blocking (L2 / Left trigger). It is crucial to keep the possibility of walking while blocking as in Skyrim. Blocking an enemy sith's lighsaber attacks is of course crucial for the player to survive the battle

? make the character's motions a little more fluid (jedi-like)

? same kind of gamedesign as Oblivion & Skyrim with a beautifully crafted & exciting main story accompanied by hundreds of side-quests to keep the player entertained long after the main story is completed (As was the case in afformentioned games Oblivion & Skyrim)

? to make combat looking even more beautiful the extraordinary finishing-moves used in Skyrim is a given in a Star Wars game (arms, legs, hands, head being cut of as the lightsaber is an extremely powerful weapon)

? it is very important, for the sake of us Star Wars fans, that the power of the lightsaber is taken into consideration & it actually slices through enemies with ease unless they posess the proper weapons to defend themselves (Sith warriors / electric staffs)

? instead of the weapons having their own damage rating as in Skyrim & Oblivion, consider having the amount of damage you inflict being a direct effect of what level the player is, i.e the damage rating increases a little with every new level.

Let me know what you guys think!

I for one believe this could be a brand new award-winning Game Of The Year for Bethesda and a new interesting take on a concept that has been kinda washed out..

Comment & discuss!

No matter how good the idea behind it, I'd rather really, really not see Bethesda make a Star Wars game. I want more of fallout and elder scrolls, and anything that takes their focus away from those two is bad in my opinion.

Also, Star Wars seems like a risky investment in time and money. Is there even a big enough audience for a game like this?

EA have exclusive rights to make Star Wars games, you will not see a Star Wars game from anyone else anytime soon.

I'm totally with you, the elder scrolls & fallout are truly amazing games. That's just the thing, in my opinion NO ONE, I mean absolutely none of the other game studios are anywhere close to being as good at open-world RPG's as Bethesda. So naturally if I had my wish come true they would make an RPG out of every single great movie franchise. But I realize that is impossible

Those are series they own though, while Star Wars, NHL and other various sport names are licensed.
