An interesting idea. The problem is that this fix to Vanilla quests would only be available to Dawnguard users. I wonder what other afterlife plane Bethesda could use to house the souls of dead quest-givers? COUGHvngarde. 'Scuse me. Not the mead hall, of course, that's only open to Nords who die in glorious battle. But what about the purgatorial mists on the other side of the Whalebone Bridge, where you first arrive and can find the souls of those who died in the Civil War, King Torygg, etc.?
I know *I'd* like it if I could visit Sovngarde again after the MQ. Lorewise, it could be said that the DVK learned the knowledge necessary to travel to and from Sovngarde from Alduin's defeat. The DVK could be barred from re-crossing the bridge and entering the mead hall at will, since that is meant as the final rest of the glorious Nord dead, but the hill, word wall and misty valley would all be fair game.
