Bethesda, what excuse do you have........

Bethesda, what excuse do you have for a UI that you need to use two hands to move your character forward? And, NO, I"m not referring to the one-handed game the a 13-year-old guy plays with one hand on the keyboard/mouse and the other hand....well, you know. In this day and age of gaming......why in the world are we limited to mostly two keyboard buttons....."E" and "R". I can't help but figure someone got lazy and that resulted in PC gamers having the limitations the the XBOX controller has. I mean, really, at least you could have made things consistent? It's now obvious that your deal with MIcrosoft Live Gaming fell through and you turned to Steam as a last-minute substitute which resulted in a HUGELY problimatic launch. And, just how many of your loyal TES gamers were "over the moon" excited about HAVING to create a Steam account? Gee, I don't know, and neither do you. You simply forgot to ask?

Well, I'm with you but your frustration is already old news here. I'm just waiting for the CK to come out.

It is old news.

People have been complaining about it since the release date on these boards....Among other things that really don't warrant being complained about due to being so minute; especially when compared to things that actually matter like broken mission glitches that Bethesda have said will be the primary focus on the January patch.

Um... you only need 1 key to move forward. It's usually W.

It's borked for PC, Bethesda knows it, and they won't ever be commenting on it. They realize where most of their money comes from nowadays — the consoles.

Eventually, modders will remake Skyrim's UI better than Bethesda ever could have, even if they'd actually put some effort into tailoring it for the PC. I'd try my own hand at it, except there are already people out there who are much more familiar with the code and necessary tools.

That's what I was thinking. Well, actually it was:

"Oh my god did Bethesda hack my brain to make me think I remembered only needing the W key to move forward when I played Morrowind? Why do that? Wait... that's silly. As silly as the OP).

Ow... that kind of hurt to read. You need a better segue between "I don't like the UI" and "STEAM! RAWWW".

Anyway since I play games other than just ES* games I already had a Steam Account. Have had one for years and it has yet to give me cancer.

* Shocking I know. I have been playing them long enough, and enjoying them enough, that I believe I would count as a "Loyal TES gamer" - Bethesda is one of my top two gaming companies (sometimes they are one, sometimes two), but one can play other games as well.

I tried to read this in a way in which it would make sense, but couldn't find one.

They don't need an excuse, all of this was easily obtainable information for months before release and you're an idiot for buying the game. If you didn't then gtfo

I know! Just today I saw a post saying if Skyrim got a GOTY there would be no justice for the people, and here is one demanding to know what excuse Bethesda has for doing this to the OP.

I used to joke, but I never knew Bethesda murdered so many people's parents, escaped justice and is now partying on a pristine beach somewhere with lingerie models while drinking martinis.

Good for you. I've been a gamer since the mid nineties, I play loads of other games than ES, and I've so far managed to get by perfectly fine without Steam. It's not a service I like and the concept of having a useless agent running whenever I want to play a game does not appeal to me. The concept of auto-updating my files without my explicit permission pisses me off to no end, even if it can be toggled off. Having an online DRM system that totally prevents you from using an application you bought on an offline computer also pisses me off. Particularly when you consider that Skyrim is 100% a single player game with no internet features whatsoever. Be that as it may, you can't actually use the product you purchased on a purely offline computer if you're a legit customer.

Mind you, if you get the pirated version then there's no trouble whatsoever. Yes, the concept of not paying resulting in no DRM hassle and essentially a more enjoyable product also pisses me off. I want more when I pay for a product, not less. And I sure as hell don't like the idea that even if I do invest in a hard copy of this game, rather than DL it off Steam, I'm still going to be crap outta luck and well down crap creek without a paddle, if Steam is actually shut down. Then you have the raw data but no damn way to activate the game and thus you actually have nothing. What's the damn point of buying something if you can't expect to actually get a permanent right to use what you buy as part of that purchase?

But let me guess, you're totally convinced that Steam won't ever die and that you won't ever be without an internet connection, right? And then to hell with the fact that Steam-products are actually just data-packages that you have virtual ownership over, which means all it takes to wipe out your game collection is a sufficiently serious server crash, and if you reinstall the day Anon goes super-viral with a DDoS against Valve, you're not going to be playing any games that day.

It wasn't a secret that Skyrim would use Steam. So if you don't like it you had one of three choices: Deal with it, don't buy it or get a console to play it on.

I'm totally convinced that while we can sit around all day coming up with doomsday predictions worst case scenarios rarely eventuate and even when they do they there is usually a work around and fixes to salvage/mitigate the situation (and working with computers long enough has shown this to be true in my experience). It has worked fine for me. It looks like it will continue to work fine. And don't worry about my data. It managed to survive a suitably damaging Brisbane flood, I seem to be doing ok. As the scouts say - Be prepared. Or was that Scar from the Lion King?.

But sure, all that might well happen. Don't know the actual probability but it is far from impossible (although running some figures around my head seems to suggest based on experience etc I have a greater danger of dying in a car accident then this happening, but whatever, I'll still drive and use steam where I have to). If it does happen I suspect while I might experience emotions ranging from anger to sadness I will have the strength to carry on and rebuild. Maybe even learn to love again.

And ok, Anon going super-viral made me laugh. If they manage it in my lifetime it might almost be worth the loss of some games to see. That and I am often without an internet connection. Until my transhumanist fantasies eventuate and I can get wireless installed in my head I accept there will be times I won't be able to play a game that requires it (though with each passing month it seems these times and locations become fewer and fewer).

Of course if you are talking about a scenario where I can't afford internet access or something (or Terrorists BLOW UP THE INTERNET! or civilisation as we know it collapses for some reason) I think I would have bigger concerns then Steam and Skyrim.

It wasn't a secret that Skyrim would use Steam. So if you don't like it you had one of three choices: Deal with it, don't buy it or get a console to play it on.

No... it isn't possible... is it? I thought it was just a legend! I never actually believed you existed, but here it is: common sense. And it is beautiful.

Watcha talking about? I can make my character walk forward without even pressing any button, using the auto walk feature. We don't all need both hands to press this.

There are too many people, with too much time on this planet.

How do people get so animated and annoyed about this stuff? It's like Bethesda have insulted your whole family.

Anyone else find it hard to take this guy somewhat seriously because of the Comic Sans?

And... What limitations do us Xbox players have? Is there some kind of button PC users usually get that allows them to run into a different dimension of the game that doesn't exist? Because I want that button.

I agree with the OP but not his way of posting.

As a non-console player it's annoying that you have to be restricted from things you would normally be able to in a pc-game.

I've been playing on a PC and I haven't seen the button yet.... maybe I have a defective one. Or maybe Bethesda stole that button from me! Bethesda, what excuse do you have for stealing my button??!! :verymad:
