Bethesda a word synonymous with broken products.

So I to, made the mistake of buying Rage on launch day. After reading several reviews, & watching my fair share of video reviews, needless to say i was pretty impressed!
With graphics being at the forefront of most of the praise.

Well, you all know how the story goes after that! lol
I find it hard to believe that "ID" a company with such a great, dare i say revolutionary reputation. Would release what is clearly a flawed, & certainly in the case of the PC version broken product!

Then it hit me! What does Rage, Fallout 3: GOTY, Fallout New vegas, & Brink have in common..........Bugs & BETHESDA!
I have, like few others in this forum. Started to call into question the quality of this company. It seems to me that with every release their reputation gets worse!

Bethesda seems to be a company that would rather meet the release deadline & fix a broken product later with a patch. Than to make sure the product is up to standard & have us respect the Bethesda name!
Or maybe the quality of these broken & flawed products does live up to the bethesda name!

I don't care about bethesda, ID, Square-Enix, Konami or any other company. I care about the end product. I'm sure most of us would by a great game made by a crap/no-name company any day of the week! It's about the reputation linked to the name & that is by making great products!
I trust Square-Enix, Konami & any other company that makes great products. They've all made mistakes, but they certainly don't consistently make them a-la Bethesda!

The problems with Rage are starring everybody in the face. I personally blame Bethesda, although i could be wrong!

I know that ID have blamed sony for not allowing them to install more than 8GB on the console. In my opinion, that means they knew it wasn't going to work properly, so to keep their reputation intact they shouldn't have released it! DUH!
& at the end of the day the XBOX version installs a stupidly over the top 22GB! & the textures still don't work properly! they're improved over the PS3 & PC version but still not sorted!

Only a very questionable company releases a game that doesn't run correctly on any system! it doesn't matter how good the graphics are when they finally pop in!

I personally don't understand what all the fuss is about! I don't think that this game is all that pretty (once the textures are in!) & i also think that there have been equally, if not better looking games on the PS3 that are not flawed & run perfectly well! i.e Final Fantasy 13, Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2 & 3, Ratchet & Clank: A crack in time, COD 2 to name a few!

Of course this is all my opinion, & i don't expect everyone to agree. (or even to read all this rubbish! lol)

The thing i wan't to know is: ID would have you believe that it's sony's fault for not allowing them more space! lol

But who do you blame? ID, Bethesda, Sony, or someone else!?

At the end of the day ID blaming sony is all well & good, but it's the customer that suffers!

We can only hope that DOOM 4 is better than this....Oh wait........Bethesda's working on it! I wouldn't bet on it! lol

Completely agree with all of the above!!

And i'd have to blame the developers of the game - they were fully aware of the draw backs when it comes to the ps3 and KNEW before they released it but they still went ahead and released it anyway because of the money they would be getting.

It's just extremely unprofessional of them and the worst thing is they're not saying a word about it! surely what they are doing is borderline illegal??

There needs to be some sort of best practice/standards body that simply judges whether a game is acceptable for release. I'm sure bethesda/ID have made millions from ps3 users globally who have brought their product which is not what the customer thought they were getting.

That's FRAUD!!

I'm gona look into the legal side of things and see what can be done - if it was a one off fine but I've purchase fallout, fallout: new vegas and had the same awful experience.

The main thing I agree on is that in releasing overly buggy games, what happens 10-20 years from now when you want to play that classic game and the patches are nowhere to be found?

I've hinted at Bethesda's record a few times now. These games are all by different developers and ultimately I think id will be the one to buck the trend. But it is very uncanny how Bethesda have a very consistent track record of this sort of thing. It does make me wonder just what it is they're doing or not doing, or whether this is one hell of a bad luck streak.

Personally I think all 3 are responsible. Bethesda for probably pressuring id with marketing schedules and poor community management, id for relenting to an early release and also not communicating well, Sony for not seeing the forest through the trees and being shortsighted.
