BethTES Collective Community Opinion on Microsoft

Post » Mon Sep 23, 2013 7:51 am

**THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE IS MAINLY FOR CONSOLE GAMERS**

The interwebz seems to hate everything Microsoft does, every step they take is the wrong one is the eyes of the internet community, but I feel like this community is a slightly more reasonable part of the internet.

So Bethesda community, if Bethesda announced that say Fallout 4, or Wolfenstein, or ES6/ESO were PC/XB1 exclusive, would you get an Xbox One over a PS4? I realize this would never happen being Bethesda is extremely platform agnostic & the PS4 runs x86 hardware which will be infinitely easier to code for than the PS3's BS Cell hardware, so that issues out of the way... but seriously, I want to know if this forum like the rest of the interwebs is so staunchly anti-MS that they wouldn't buy an XB1 even if one of the big-name Bethesda titles went XB1/PC or perhaps even full XB1 exclusive, personally I'm a PC guy, but I always get a kick out of the console wars & also being a MASSIVE Halo & Crytech fan I'm getting an XB1 for what ever the next Halo will be when ever it may come out & Ryse: Son of Rome.

I've lost all interest in Microsoft. Even after backpeddaling on many of the Xbox One's features, Microsoft remains increasingly anti-consumer. Maybe if they get their act together in future I may have an interest in them again, but for the moment Sony or Nintendo remain the better option for console gaming.

As I have zero interest in ever buying an Xbox One, any console exclusive game on it will simply be a game I will not play.

Also does anyone else feel like this is the year of the empty wallet? I mean SO many amazing games are coming out this Fall/Winter/Spring + I want an NVidia shield + I finally can justify a purchase of a current-gen Nintendo console with the super cheap non-gimmick based 2DS & as I said I want an XB1 & AMD is tugging at my sleeve constantly to get a separate set of AMD hardware being more game will be optimized for their chips being both major consoles are running AMD x86 hardware & theres that Never Settle Forever thing & theres just so many things to buy & so little time (AND MONEY!!!)

I don't even know what a Microsoft is, but it sounds mean and cruel.

Not a Microsoft fan, but if there is an exclusive XB1 game I really want to play, then I will buy a XB1 at some point.

Did the same thing this console generation too, Lost Odyssey is pretty much the only reason why I bought a 360. I did wait for the 360 to get cheap though.

As far as the games published by Bethesda games go, I play them all on PC. Well, except for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wet_(video_game) cause it wasn't released for PC, so I played it on the PS3.

Yeah, IF Bethesda made the next fallout or TES or whatever an xbox 1 exclusive, then No, I will still not buy an xbox 1, no matter how bad I want the game. I would HOPE that by my protest of not buying their next big game, despite being a hardcoe fan, that MAYBE they would reconsider and release the game for PC and PS4 (because I would also hope that there are others like me who are hardcoe fans that wouldn't give in to that BS).

It's not really that I hate Microsoft or anything, as they basically have a monopoly on electronics, (you know that Bill Gates owns over 50% of Apple as well, but cant get in trouble for a monopoly cus HE himself doesn't technically own that much of apple, but owns it through added up shares through various foundations linked to him and his family) but I do hate the Xbox, especially after everyone I know going through multiple Xbox 360s in small period of time, and I don't want to contribute to the sales of the xbox franchise as a whole.

I also know a lot of die hard xbox franchise fans that are a lot more pretentious and elitist then their Playstation and PC fan counterparts, and it kinda just ticks me off. (I don't consider myself a hardcoe fan of any, as I lots of different consoles as well as PC regularly - I just dislike the Xbox console though I did like the original)

I actually also bought a 360 when they first came out just to solely play Oblivion, being a die hard elder scrolls fan. I wont do that again, even for another elder scrolls or Bethesda game (as they don't seem to be going in the direction I personally want the franchise to go in terms of content, structure and gameplay) though I don't think Bethesda will ever abandon the PC medium for their main franchise, so I shouldn't worry too much.

According to the patterns of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embrace,_extend_and_extinguish (I will use their original term, not their whitewashed term), I predict that the next BGS-owned franchise game, be it TES 6 or FO4, will feature an X-Bone-exclusive major DLC. Not timed exclusive, permanent exclusive. Possibly more than one. Maybe even all of them. We already had one timed exclusive with FONV, then all three with Skyrim. And then with the game after that, Microsoft will drop the big one: complete exclusivity, game and everything, or else they'll revoke the Xbox One publishing license (or let it expire and not offer renewal, or whatever legal mumbo jumbo involving publishing licenses they will pull to exert on BGS). Either that, or the "All exclusive DLC" first, then full exclusive extortion.

Unless Microsoft gets burned badly enough by their Xbox One debacles that it's financially viable for BGS to decline.

Uhm... All DLC was released for PC and X360 simultaneously, if not off by a couple days. IIRC, PS3 porting had technical difficulties (of which we should know all about after the mess with Skyrim PS3 DLC).

Good point MadCat, I think Bethesda might want to do a completely personalized story-based single player TV Show + Game (like what Remedy is doing with Quantum Break) at one point, which would only be viable on the XB1 with all the TV-like/compatible features (unless that Vita-TV thing isn't just thrown together like it sounds like it is from what I've been told about it so far).

I find your prediction to be extremely unlikely and will be rather surprised if it happens, to say the least.

I just don't see the patterns at all, unlike them planting a trojan at Nokia 3 years ago and then buying Nokia a few weeks ago. Bethesda had a strong multi-platform focus for years, and I just don't see that change (despite all the DLC issues they been having).

I'm a "fan" of very few companies. Companies aren't something to befriend. They only care about your wallet so you gain nothing by being a fan of one.

At the same time I don't agree with almost all of Microsoft's recent business strategies or decisions. As such I don't buy the products related to those decisions and practices.

Well, I predicted that the next game after Skyrim would be "All timed exclusive DLCs", but that turned out to be one phase earlier than I expected.

I wouldn't buy an Elder Scrolls or Fallout game on either console, with Bethesda's track record of buggy games that need mods to fix.

If there were a few good (non Beth) exclusives on XB1 then I'd consider it, I only buy consoles for the exclusive games anyway.

It's not that people are harping on Microsoft because it is the cool thing to do, it is because Microsoft has been particularly draconian and abusing its monoploy position the past few years.

The xbox one has nothing I want. You can put a flag on a mudship, but you can't sell me a poo sandwich and convince me it is beef. If I should buy one of those xbox with mandatory kinect things not only would I be paying for a piece of hardware I would not use, I would also by virtue of my purchase agree to their conditions, which more or less state that the xbox is allowed to spy on me and that they are allowed to use the data as they see fit. Then there is what they triumphantly claim to be a feature that allows you to 'share games with friends' which when examined closely again turns out to be something solely to their benefit and the detriment of the consumer.

At the moment I don't think I can be persuaded to buy any of the next gen consoles. I'll have to go pc instead, something I have never really done for gaming before. First I had Ninentdos and then an Xbox.

Nope. I hate the fact that they bribe Devs for early DLC. That alone makes me hate them.

Bethesda games exclusively on the Xbox One would almost be a reason to actually buy a PS4, honestly. There's not much that could convince me to buy one - not because I hate Microsoft's blatant anti-consumerism (although, I do), but because there's just not anything that could really make me interested in buying one. Anything from the West worth playing will probably be ported to PC, and if I want to play any Japanese games, I'll pick up a Wii-U or PS4. I don't see much reason in buying a gimped PC riddled with DRM, if it doesn't at least have some interesting games to play.

Hmm... i dont know even what to say.. is this yet again somekind of console gamer crusade against PC-gamers? We have had quite many of those in the past years.

I love Microsoft, Even when the Xbox One was announced with all of it's original features I was in the minority of people who understood why MS made the choices they did. I still like the idea of the original Xbox One and wish they would find a way to have those features returned to the console.

I have no love for Microsoft. Between the Xbox One debacle and the horrible Windows 8 interface, I've lost a lot of faith in them. If I wasn't a gamer, I wouldn't own a single Microsoft product.

But if Bethesda announced, for whatever reason, that TES VI would be Xbox Exclusive, I'd buy it. Simply put, my love for TES is greater than any sort of loyalty I feel for any gaming platform. Same goes for if it was PC, PS3 or Wii exclusive.

If Bethesda did that, then I would be extremely annoyed. I would certainly never go out and buy an Xbox One just because a developer I like decided to start making exclusives for it. I like Bethesda, but not enough that I'd spend £400+ just to play one of their games.

I see them as those guys who make the Xbox line of systems. I don't really care about the Xbox line since most of the games on the systems have never appealed to me by much. I always was more of a Sony person and me and the original Xbox fan of the school would debate on weird things. Such as Fable vs Kingdom Hearts. Okay, not debate since he had good points. Buying castles is better than exploring castles with keyblades as weapons.

We only ever talked to eachother if we worked on a group project(which was often for some reason...) or he was talking about video games or manga. Two topics I love next to animals. I think I was chosen to be his group project partner in hopes that my insane need to keep focused on the task at hand would be motivational even though I always ended up with extra work. And was given the nickname Pelvis for a month or two.

So, the first Xbox actually is associated with that person. Luckily, they never wronged me, so I don't have any animosity towards that system. I actually kind of want an original Xbox to play the odd games it had for it. Klawed likes odd games. I'll soon have room for one, I hope.

I have played the 360 a few times since most people I know with a console from the Wii, PS3, and 360 gen have a 360 or a Wii. I find the handles on the official controllers extremely odd to touch because they feel like they are sweating eternally sometimes. Most exclusives are actually also on the PC, so I can play most of the games on that system on the PC. I don't know if I will ever bother to get a 360 since it has less odd games on retail disks.
