[WIP] Better Border Crossings

Post » Wed May 23, 2012 3:45 am

I'm in the process of making a mod that improves the road border crossings in Skyrim.

It always struck me as a bit odd that during a time of civil war and with the threat of the Dominion still lingering that the crossings into the other provinces are un-guarded and un-interesting. It is my intentions to place fortifications, buildings and NPCs at these crossings to liven them up and make them less jarring than merely a road with an invisible wall or gate across it.

So far my plans are to place position an imperial encampment, stockade fortifications, and a customs building on Skyrim - Cyrodil border.

Place Alikr warriors and fortifications on The Hammerfell Border.

I'm unsure yet what to do with crossings into Morrowind (more imperials maybe?)

I will also like to add quests in the future

This is my fist mod for any game as such progress is slow but steady i'm making liberal use of the wiki and tutorial vids any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd also like your ideas, suggestions i'm trying to make this as lore friendly as I can.

I'd like that! I was also disappointed with the borders. I often went out of my way to search for something there, but nothing. =(

I think I would mainly put trading caravans and traveling settlers on the Morrowind border. Many Dunmer moved to Skyrim after the Red Year, and the situation in Morrowind is till not quite clear. They are probably not back to their former strength, and not fully capable to patrol their borders as Cyrodiil and Hammerfell are.

That's a good idea, but i'm looking for a way to seal it off the player doesn't have interact with an invisible wall. Stormcloaks sealing off the border to prevent more refugees maybe?

Where on the map are these border crossings, anyway? The only one I ever found is the one just northeast of Windhelm, and it doesn't even look like a border crossing. Anyone, including fugitives, can just simply slip through these border crossings because there's no guards watching these roads.

There's one east of Riften. Haven't come across any others yet...

There are four border crossings that I know of. There's one crossing into Hammerfell in the mountains southwest of Falkreath, Pale Pass which crosses into Cyrodiil high in the mountains south of Helgen (which is somewhat hard to find), a narrow valley leading to Morrowind southeast of Riften, and the crossing into Morrowind east of Windhelm.

Pale Pass and the crossing southwest of Falkreath have gates barring the way, but no soldiers in sight.
