You do not need to go up both branches. Either the light smithing or the heavy smithing path lets you learn Dragon smithing, quite simply.

Great list but a question if i may...let's say the very first perk below all trees (the one that has 5 points in it), do we have to pick all five before being able to pick others from that tree?!
