DooM 1 & 2 Multiplayer not available on PC

Just heard this - can somebody confirm?

Seriously? Everybody else (consoles) gets it but the pc guys who made you very very wealthy don't?

I'd like to know where you heard that... please don't tell me it's "a rumor."

My guess would be that they haven't updated the netcode at all (why bother) and prefer to say "no multiplayer" instead of "multiplayer through http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internetwork_Packet_Exchange or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DWANGO"... :P

If you want multiplayer in the old Doom games, look http://odamex.net/, http://zandronum.com/downloads/ or http://www.zdaemon.org/ I guess.

Not a rumour - confirmed by GStaff on this very board. First topic in this forum - the recently posted "Doom 3 BFG Edition FAQ".

It says it all there.

Interesting that there won't be any multiplayer for Doom and Doom 2 on the PC. I guess it's because both games are the XBLA versions.

In all honesty, most people buying this will already have the original games. If you want Doom 1 and 2 multiplayer that's the place to go to. BFG edition is about bringing Doom 1 and 2 to the consoles and bringing a souped-up Doom 3 with extra content to all platforms.

Just download a source port that supports Multiplayer and point it to the Doom 1 and Doom 2 IWAD files. I recommend Skulltag/Zandronum personally.

Unless for some reason those IWAD files are altered to prevent use with user-made sourceports, which would be a really really really stupid move. I doubt it, more than likely there is multiplayer on the console versions because that is done through a console specific sourceport that supports multiplayer, no change necessary for the IWADs.
