Big disadvantage when using keyboard and mouse!!!!!

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 5:49 am

I have been playing crysis 2 from the moment it was
Launched and at first i decided to get a controller , but couldn't
Play it , my aiming was horrible. Anyway i kept playing with the mouse
And keyboard but everything was smooth until i started to get melee kills
From the enemy . At first i thought well its just another way to kill but my
Frustration began when i tried to do the same and "believe me", Not Possible....
By the time i look down and find my "V" key i already got killed. I am not
Trying to blame the players but i really think that this melee thing shouldn't
Instantly kill you...besides how ridiculous to think that with such a nano suit
Capable of resist heavy fire hits, maximum armor, etc, a simple melee will knock
You down...
Ps; hope that Dx11 will kick some ass!!

1) It takes at least 2 hits from melee if you have not already received damage. 3 if you have armor up. If it helps make sense, you are using a nano suit, so they're more like.. super punches :)
2) Remap the melee key to something more convenient. I map it to mouse 4, since i have a 5 button mouse.. Alternatively, you could just get used to the V key. I some how have managed to get used to nano vision being "n" even though i have to reach across the keyboard for it :) And i do so without leaving WASD.
3) Melee has a wider arch than you think it would, so you don't have wait until the guy is directly in front.

Of course my dear if you can't use them instead of autoaiming on joystik then you FAIL, my friend!

V is a perfectly acceptable melee key. Other common spots (in all fps's that dont have melee as a separate weapon) are

Scrollwheel (either up OR down, or both if you're likely to panic and forget which one), not scroll click as this takes more effort to use, save this for situational things like nanovision or spotting.

A mouse thumb button. easy reachable convenient (on most mice) if you have one, definitely recommend binding a well used function here.

Lalt, lctrl, spacebar. I put in spacebar because some people tend to rely on their melee more than their jumping capability (more so in other games, where jumping isn't used to really traverse terrain). 2 of these buttons are thumb oriented, lctrl is pinky oriented. Lctrl makes sense seeing as you cant sprint and punch at the same time.

Of course judging from your post, you are not a seasoned pc gamer, or infact user. A valuable and core part of ANY pc gamers repertoire is the ability to type (and hence game) without EVER glancing/staring at the keyboard. Taking your eyes off the screen to find a button to do something will get you killed, lose your momentum ingame, or simply take 3 times as long. If it wasn't for the need to look at whats going on, many pc gamers could actually play blindfolded, and can easily play with the keyboard out of sight under a desk.

Not having the ability to coordinate your fingers without visual aid doesn't make you a bad person, im not insulting you here. BUT it does SEVERELY hamper your ability to game (with or without a controller).

Keyboard and mice users have no disadvantage to controllers in most game genre's (some long rpg's benefit from a controller for simple game pacing and ergonomic reasons). This is why controllers get/got autoaim. You're literally all thumbs with a controller.

I suggest picking up a cheap/free typing tutorial program, and work at getting your score over 40words per minute (or at least 30) WHILE the keyboard is covered. Not only will this make any computer oriented activity quicker and easier, you will be looking at what your enemy is doing while punching him in the face, and not what your hands are doing.

USE THE FORCE.

FPS games with controllers on the PC. BIG LMAO. There is zero reason to use a controller in FPS games and game devs only do it do show the game off to console users.

and only the hackers use it, all the time.Excuse me, but Nanovision is not hacking, it's a way of beating the stealth of your opponents at the cost of suit energy. That's like saying that the tagging feature of binos is wallhacking because it lets you see where the enemy is even behind walls and in stealth. Even though tagging does fade after a while and when the tagged player is killed once AND can only be tagged in clear line of sight that even foilage can foil.

Maybe the JAW is hacking too because you can correct the missile after launch to hit a moving target with it. >:L

I've got a Revolution MX and all the abilities are mapped within easy reach. I've got crouch & melee on the thumb buttons, visor & bonuses on the <>wheel and nanovision on the top button. It would be a real PITA to have to press the keyboard keys for these functions.

I am using Razor Imperator which is amazing for Crysis 2, first i though that only 2 side buttons it will be not enough, but eventually turns out that 2 additional buttons on mouse it is everything what i need in any FPS game. So i rearrange nanovision to first button and melee punch to second button, and armor to E key ;) After few games i don't need to even think where is my xxxxx ability binded xD

I svck at computer games, but i like to play them, so i play.

Knowing that is a good start to play a little better. And U can actually play better.

I had the same issue, could not kill anyone with melee attack, so i bought a mouse with 12 side buttons. I use those buttons for melee, reload, sprint, granade and weapon toggle, among other things. It HAS IMPROVED MY SKILLS. Of course i still svck, but i happened to enjoy the game a lot more and i actually killed 7 people within the past 5 days using melee, before that, it was zero kills.

Other thing that will help is to do some training with the keys u have chosen. I actually spend a few minutes on singler player training my keys before starting MP games. I toggle grenade, primary weapon, secondary, back to primary, crouch, fire, run, melle, and so on, after a few days your brains will start sending the message to your hands automatically, so u will not have to think before pressing the buttons. That helped a lot too.

I am also working on aim. I start a single player game and aim at objects around he map and keep aiming and firing as fast as i can. It has also improved my aiming skills. Of course i will never fire as acurately as those natural-born snipers, but in an instant action with 16 ppl ill manage to kill much more than i used to when i first started.

That stuff worked for me. Try and find out what will work for you.

Cheers!

Nanovision does not prevent you from shooting while it is active. Nanovision does drain energy, but its not nearly as fast as cloak's drain. Once you've gotten some of the higher level mods, you can run around with nanovision on quite a bit. With energy transfer you can usually leave it on for very long periods of time if need be, depending on how many kills in a row you can get.

the hardest thing to use is nanovision, N

and only the hackers use it, all the time.

Don't forget that players with nano suit 2.0 also have infinite energy for a time, and run around armored and nano visioned, since its all free. They can't cloak though..

In addition, if you have visor maxed out, nanovision becomes pretty cheap to run. Tie that with other modules that improve armor/cloak/power energy usage, and you can get some pretty energy efficient configurations. So there are several ways to keep enough power to run the thing for seemingly long periods of time. Especially a guy with energy transfer, so long as he keeps killing.
