Bioware's Lead Writer Resigns...

Drew Karpyshyn has apparently resigned from Bioware.

imo it could be nice to see him here at Bethesda in future. I don't think Bethesda are bad writers but I think the presence of someone like Karpyshyn could definitely benefit BSG and their games.

I very much like his writting for Bioware. My problem with Bioware games has been gameplay and not story.

Shame, mass effect 1 was good. If only he worked on the sequals, instead he got moved to ToR. Which imo Chris Avellone would have been best for.

He wrote mass effect 1, then Mac Walters wrote 2 and 3.

As Ratslayer says, Karpyshyn worked on ME1 (and 2 if wiki is right) but not DA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drew_Karpyshyn

As to why he left, well, officially to seek new challenges. As to whether we can read between the lines and conclude that he doesn't like the direction that EA is taking Bioware...well, that's anyone's guess. It wouldn't surprise me if that was a factor but that's just my thoughts.

What parts of writing was he responsible for?

If it was DA1 or ME1, he will be missed. :(

But for DA2 or ME2....Meh....

My thoughts, too.

Or maybe he just got tired of being associated with hacks.

This guy was the lead writer for KotOR, if I'm not mistaken. If so, great... salvage as many good former BioWare workers we can from that wreck and shadow of its former self.

Bioware as a whole (including Drew) isnt that great. They have their own cliche chart.

He may have been better than others Bioware employ (hes not a dike like Gaider anyway) but he's no Chris Avellone.

Can't argue with that, but it looks like he's moving on to non-game projects. Ah well, good luck to him in any case.

Why am I not surprised at this? At this rate, I wonder how many more of their developers will leave "to seek new challenges" (AKA leaving the sinking ship known as Biofail.) until Biofail finally capsizes. I give them 5-10 years before the main people leave.

They pretty much killed DA.
ME is going to be a huge flop, which they intend to milk further anyway.
ToR will never make a profit, they had to try and hide the "cancel subscription" option, then banned people who told people how to do it on the forums.

The sooner Bioware collapses the better. Maybe we will see a decent company take its place.
Hell given their current path I wouldnt exactly miss bethesda either. Allthough they treat their fans better than bioware.

It's always mindbogging why would people ask for others to die instead of looking for a better alternatives? Do they never failed anything ever in their life? That a company must make games perfectly fit for everyone? If you don't like their games don't buy it, not asking for it to collapse. Do you have any idea how many people will be devastated with a collapse of a corp size like Bioware? Isn't the economy bad enough already? Grow up.

I have no issue with games made that are not my taste. I have an issue, when they keep insisting it is something it isnt.
I dont buy them, I spend my money on things I actually like.
And if it goes down, it makes room for others, bioware isnt that big anyway. You swear by the way your acting its asda/walmart or something.
Biowares existance would has little effect on the economy, if this was activision then it would have impact. But Bioware, nope.

1 man company, 1000 man company, what matters? Matters is your malevolent intent. They didn't hurt you, yet you wished them harm. They didn't cog the market, they provided a choice, which you can choose to ignore. That's very disturbing.

I'm having a bad feeling that Dragon Age really died after Awakening. One of DA2's better aspects was the writing - as with BioWare always - but not that folks are abandoning the ship it looks bad... I bet they replace him with some cheap EA drone. I truly hope this is not as serious as it seems.

I'm looking forward to the SWTOR novel he's writing, the Darth Bane trilogy he wrote is, in my opinion, on par with the original trilogy.
