Bizarre Memory Usage

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2016 8:25 am

There must be a setting that I am missing....

My rig has 24 gig DDR3 and I am on W10. Per MSI Afterburner, FO4 memory RAM usage is 5532 MB and 14102 MB for the pagefile. That seems messed up. Why isn't game using all that available memory and instead is using the page file? Is this normal? Suggestions to fix? Thanks!

That's normal. The game will never use much more than 6GB (maybe less). You are reading 5532 MB and 14201 MB, but is that on top of what the base system starts with?

The pagefile reading is really commit charge (pagefile size + Total amount of RAM). The commit charge pertains to pages that could be loaded in the pagefile or RAM so it can include RAM pages. This is all related to how virtual memory operates.

Realize that Available RAM includes cached pages. It is likely FO4 caches alot of pages that are simply held in RAM until they are needed.
